Focus: Too many tractors: As boom times fade, farm equipment piles up
Falling crop prices are leaving agriculture equipment sellers with an excess of unsold tractors and combines. To cope with the surplus, dealers are discounting machines, suspending new orders, and even auctioning off equipment at reduced prices.

U.S. JANUARY TRACTOR SALES UP 5%, COMBINE SALES DOWN 25%

According to the Association of Equipment Manufacturer's monthly "Flash Report," the sale of all tractors in the U.S. in 2020, were up 5% in January compared to 2019.
For the year, a total of 12,580 tractors were sold which compares to 12,017 sold in 2019 representing an 5% increase for the year.
For the month of January, two-wheel drive smaller tractors (under 40 HP) were up 3% from last year, while 40 & under 100 HP were up 5%. Sales of 2-wheel drive 100+ HP were up 20%, while 4-wheel drive tractors were down 7%.

Combine sales were up 25% for the month. Sales of combines for the year totaled 198 compared to 262 in 2019, an 25% decrease.
