The Circus Studies Program put on a gravity-defying performance last week, combining music, circus skills, and stunning colors. Their choreographed acts had been refined for months, and the show was a spectacular showcase of their skills and artistry!

Since 1942, many hands and hearts have carried on Mrs. Emmet’s vision to turn her family farm into a school. Today, we are a thriving community of students from preschool through high school.

This year’s Founder’s Day of Giving theme, The Art of Becoming, honors the experiences of our students and alumni:

🎪The joy of the circus ring
🎓The pride of a Capstone presentation
🎭The courage of acting on stage

Our goal is to raise $150,000 from 100 donors. To achieve this, we’re thrilled to announce two special $50,000 incentive challenges:

- First $50K Match: Every dollar you give will be matched 1:1 up to $50,000

- Second $50K Match: Once 100 donors contribute, an additional $50,000 will be unlocked

Join the HMS community of current families, alumni, and friends to honor and carry on the vision of our founder. Give here: https://secure.qgiv.com/event/hmsfoundersday2026/

Join us this Saturday, May 9 for our annual Founder’s Day of Giving to celebrate the spirit of the woman who started it all: Mrs. Beulah Emmet.

A gorgeous afternoon brought classes outdoors!

Students circled up beneath a tree for Joseph's Ancient Civilizations course, while circus students practiced on the Oval.

Trimester 3 kicked off this week, and high school students who are enrolled in the popular stained glass elective have already begun their projects. Meeting twice each week in the afternoon, students are learning the copper foil technique under the guidance of instructor Michal Noer. Along the way, they develop the skills to cut glass, wrap each piece in foil, and solder everything together into a finished stained glass window.

This floral work-in-progress feels especially fitting as we welcome the first day of spring on campus!

Under the direction of Wendy Bruneau, grade 9 performed two one-act plays: “Over the Wall” and “Us and Them.” Both were concerned with why people build walls around their communities and “tribalize" themselves into "us" and "them."

Well done, Wendy and grade 9!

This January our senior HMS Circus Studies Program students rendezvoused in Paris for the 45th Festival Mondial du Cirque de Demain, where young professional circus artists from around the world gather to showcase their talents.

As audience members at this one-of-a-kind prestigious festival, our students enjoyed spectacular world class performances by jugglers, aerialists, contortionists, and more! They also clowned around the City of Light, performing a few tricks of their own against iconic Parisian landmarks, and had a chance to practice their French language skills and learn a bit about French history and culture.

Sophomores in this trimester’s Clay Heads class are learning that sculpture happens in both time and space. As their work takes shape, students practice observing from multiple perspectives—not only of their sculptures, but of themselves and their place in the world.

Using the hollow-coiled technique, students sculpt a life-sized human head, modeling form and features from the inside out. Along the way, they focus on proportion, anatomy, individual characteristics, and the thoughtful treatment of the finished surface.
