Since hearing about the Allan Institute for Cell Science's cell atlas project, I've been looking for similar projects that combine microscopy with computational methods to develop 3D cell visualizations. Only this time, a mouse embryo model was used! A step in the right direction. Watch and read, even if you're not into science.

Adaptive light-sheet microscopy is used to establish a dynamic atlas of post-implantation mouse development at the single-cell level.

Does what we read about change how we think in our jobs? Starting a reading list that fits with your progression strategy can be a potent motivator and lead us to develop new frames of reference in problem solving.

We all need to read more to expand our thinking, our outlook and our bank account. At least, this is what we’ve been hearing repeatedly from the leading entrepreneurs and authors for the past two years. One strategy towards learning put forward by popular self-help figures is that one should onl.....

Never be afraid to imitate great works in order to learn your field and find your own style.

Similarly, if you naturally imitate over and over the things you enjoy, don't feel ashamed.

Someday, that creative genius will be gone and you will be left to revive her symphony and song.

If there's one low-hanging fruit that tech startups are looking for, it's superior integrated design.

The pipeline for a new, innovative product requires significant time, human resources and funding. The infrastructure of the industry doesn't readily support single solutions that may pass or fail in the late stages of development. Before testing our products, testing should be directed at our approach; on which components and processes cooperate and which confound and produce the opposite of the desired affect.

Leaders need to learn when to sit down so that any member of their cohorts can stand up and restructure the concept of the operation.

Executives shouldn't shy away from replacing today's go-getter with the emergent game-changer.

Your ability to represent a concept accurately with a separate thing by saying "X-concept is somewhat like Y-concept." quickly qualifies your understanding of the concept. It can be helpful in committing new material to long term memory when your comparison is based on something you already know well. It furthermore helps to deduce its use in a certain context.

As the wave of approaches, people need to be less like robots. We need to be more open to understanding other humans, to engage in technology for human benefit and nurture the learning and growing AI systems like our children.

We need to be worthy of emulation.

Making space movies is tough when astrophysicists examine how accurate your movie is. I mean think about it. So many things change from planet to planet. Matt Damon is a cowardly selfish villain on one planet, a lone survivor/hero of sciencing on Mars and a CIA assassin on Earth. Not to mention things like gravity change, which apparently we don't have the technology to simulate 40% earth's gravity in movies.

This is a pilot episode of another cool science YouTube Channel called "Science vs Cinema."

In our pilot episode we look at the new Ridley Scott film "THE MARTIAN" starring Matt Damon. How accurate was the science? We examine every scientific subjec...

Just finished "The Seventh Sense."

This brilliant, "big picture" book marks my second read into the emerging field of Network science

To see if i might want to seriously pursue this field, I'm shifting into an academic study of this awesome stuff with Network medicine by Joseph Loscalzo, Albert-Laszlo Barabasi and Edwin K Silverman. Deep breath.

Two questions to ask yourself today:

Would you be glad to continue this career path for the rest of your life?

And

If you got nowhere in this career, will it still be worth it to you?

If it's yes because it's about the people you work with or how you are treated that make it worth it, this can easily change soon.

If it's about the progress and job success you've already had with the promise of more, it may be very difficult to see past your conditioning to know whether it has made a real difference in the world. Want a cookie?

If it's something you'll do when you're not so busy, put up with its losses, and defend it from other people's rejection or approval knowing they can't see it, the answer for both might be yes.
