Tulane University is among the schools I recently visited. It is a great match for a good student who wants to attend college in an action-packed city. Please see the blog post in the comments for a description of students, academics, affordability, and housing at Tulane.

Rice University
I was fortunate to participate in a counselor "fly-in" to Rice University earlier this year. Rice is a good fit for students who are smart, kind, and academically focused. Read more about it here: https://www.educ8fit.com/post/rice-nice-university

ADHD and Finding Your Passion(s)
I was pleased to co-host another Gateway to Graduate School for members of my trades association, the IECA--Independent Educational Consultants Association. Last week, Julie McNair and I had Elizabeth Aslinger present. Dr. Aslinger spoke about her journey with ADHD as she navigated changing majors at Yale University as an undergrad and the focus of her doctorate at Purdue University. Her book "ADHD: Beyond the Label" will be available in September.

Easy Read On College Admissions and Success
I just read Peter Pitts' new book, Small College Magic. The book is a collection of easy-to-read essays about college admissions and success. The book is not just for people interested in small colleges, the information is more general than that. There is even a short section on how to make a large school feel small. It is a great substitute for staples like Who Gets In and Why and Dream School, particularly if you are looking for a lighter read. The essays address parents, but it might be a good book for a student to read because it is a quick read.

Attend College in Ireland!
Last week, I attended a lunch with admission officers from four universities in Ireland:
• Trinity College Dublin,
• University of Limerick,
• South East Technological University, and
• Dublin City University.
In addition, the Consul General of Ireland in Miami was represented.
Ireland welcomes international students and has a robust job market for those who want to remain there. It was great to learn more about going to college in Ireland. I look forward to visiting these universities. Special thanks to Brenda Meira, Hannah Murphy, Valeriana Daily, Diana Yaruro, and Ciara Browne for speaking with me.

Admission to Selective Graduate School Programs
Last week, I facilitated the discussion in Gateway to Graduate School, a monthly Zoom call that Julie McNair and I hold for our colleagues in the IECA--Independent Educational Consultants Association. Julie was visiting colleges last week, so my colleague and friend Linda Jang served as co-host. We discussed Julie Posselt's Inside Graduate Admissions: Merit, Diversity, and Faculty Gatekeeping.

Admitted to Yale University Via QuestBridge
I work with a pro bono client every year, typically navigating them through need-based financial aid, essay brainstorming, and college admissions. This year my pro bono client was admitted to Yale with a generous financial aid package. I have previous undergraduate clients who now attend Yale University, Dartmouth, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Stanford University, and other universities. If a student qualifies for a full Pell grant, they will likely pay less to attend one of these schools than they would pay to attend an in-State public university.

Updates From College Admission Officers
I was pleased to attend another meeting of the Florida Regional Admission Counselors. These meetings offer a unique opportunity to learn about new programs in colleges, as well as important aspects of the college admission process and the benefits of a college education. One of the topics we discussed was the importance of having "soft skills," as students enrolling in college now will likely wind up holding a job that does not exist today.
The admission officers represented such schools as included Bryant University, Muhlenberg College, Southern Methodist University, Hampden-Sydney College, Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI), Loyola University Maryland, Samford University, Rutgers University, the University of Maryland, the UAB - The University of Alabama at Birmingham, EHL Switzerland, the University of Denver, High Point University, John Cabot University (Rome), the University of Nevada-Las Vegas, and IE University (Spain). Special thanks to Susan Groden for hosting the event.
