Good afternoon parents and guardians!

We have had an amazing week here at VBS. Students are getting back into the routine and there is some fabulous learning already going on.

Please do not forget that in order for your student to use a Chromebook, you must pay the $30 usage fee or apply for the financial waiver. QR codes to pay online or complete the waiver are attached.

Our very own music teacher, Ms. Smith, was recently featured on the NC Symphony’s social media!

She joined more than 150 music educators from 20 counties at Teacher Workshops in New Bern and Raleigh, learning about curriculum-aligned lessons and ways to prepare students for the Symphony and Education Concert.

We are proud of Ms. Smith for representing Vinson-Bynum Elementary and continuing to grow professionally for the benefit of our students! 🎵👏🏽

📣Announcements for the Week of August 24th📣

Good afternoon, VBS families!

This is Mrs. Dublin, proud principal of Vinson-Bynum, calling with this week’s announcements.

We are so excited to welcome our students back on Monday, August 24th!

We would like to highlight some reminders to help our school year get started successfully.

🚦Our traffic pattern in our parking lot flows in one direction. Please review our message on ClassDojo or our Facebook for more information.

🚗☀️Morning Drop-Off: Parents and guardians are welcome to walk students in during the first week of school. However, please do not park in the car line. All parents and guardians must exit the building by 8:00 AM.

🍳Breakfast Reminder: Any breakfast from outside restaurants must be finished before entering the building, per Wilson County Schools policy and USDA regulations.

🍴Lunch Visitors: We will not be allowing lunch visitors this week, as our staff is working to establish routines. We will let you know once lunch visits are allowed.

🚙🌅Dismissal Procedures: For safety reasons, walk-ups are not allowed at dismissal. All families must use the car line, which will begin once all adults are in their vehicles.

🚌 Bus Transportation: Bus stops and times have been shared with all families assigned to a bus. Please be patient as times may vary slightly this week while our drivers learn their routes. Be sure your student is at the stop at least 10 minutes early. You can also track buses using the Here Comes the Bus App—more details are available on the WCS website.

💻Chromebook Fees: All students are responsible for a $30 Chromebook usage fee. You can pay online, send cash in a sealed envelope with your child’s name and teacher, or apply for a financial assistance waiver. Visit ClassDojo or Facebook for more information.

💲Before and After School Care Payments: These payments are not accepted online and should still be made directly with the Site Director at our school.

Looking ahead:

Monday, August 31st, students will celebrate their independence by walking to class on their own. We will have staff stationed throughout the building to support them.

🚗 Car Line Reminders 🚗

As we prepare to welcome our students back on Monday, please take a few minutes to review the attached map and read through our car line reminders. Our goal is to keep traffic moving smoothly while ensuring the safety of every student, family, and staff member.

🌅 Morning Carpool:
-Our traffic flows in one direction. Please enter using the entrance closest to the hospital. You must exit at the stop light at Parkwood Blvd. Do not exit through our entrance. Doing so creates a serious traffic hazard and puts our students and families at risk.

-Do not stop in the crosswalk. We use the crosswalk to help students safely access the breezeway.

-If you are dropping your student off in the car line, please do not allow them to exit your vehicle until you are in front of or directly behind the crosswalk. A staff member on duty will let your student know when it is safe to exit.

-Please keep the car line moving. If you need to help your student pack their bag, gather belongings, or take care of other items, please pull into a parking space.

***Please do not park in the car line if you plan to walk your student into the building. Please use a designated parking space instead.

-Please keep the car line moving. If you need additional time to help your student get into a car seat or secure their belongings, please pull into a parking space.

⚠️ General Reminders:
-Please do not move, drive over, or go around our cones and ropes. These are in place to support a safe and organized traffic flow.

-School grounds are nonsmoking zones. This includes our car line and parking areas.

-Please remain in the lane you have selected. Switching lanes creates additional safety concerns.

-Please do not speed in our parking lot. Our parking lot is a busy area with students, families, and staff, and maintaining a safe speed is essential.

Thank you for your patience, cooperation, and partnership as we work together to make arrival and dismissal as safe and efficient as possible.
