Final appreciation lap for my dear friend !

Jess has been alongside me from the beginning of the beginning when I was trying to figure out how to make this possible. I had a dream of making a difference, and Jess said “Hell yeah!”

Jess and I met because of our kids, which has grown into our mutual friendship with the best family circle of friends. When I announced to the group that I planned to run for school board, she claimed the role as my treasurer (immediate yes from me). Jess built a career in federal bank auditing, so I knew I could confidently hand that portion of the campaign over to her. Jess is a friend who always wants the best for you- she knew she was the best for this role. Jess, I’m so grateful to have been able to turn this over into your overqualified hands and to have lessened my worry on one part of the campaign.

Jess was also there to make sure I had a buddy in the more social situations, quite literally feeding me cough drops and water and tea at an event that my immune system had no business being at.

These campaigns take more than the candidate. They require solid family and friends. Thank you to Jess and everyone else who gave pieces of themselves to this campaign!

As we really wind down this campaign I want to take two solid appreciation laps. First, for .and.cheese

Maggie was one of the first people to jump in on this with me. And, she didn’t even really know me before she agreed to help me. I was one of the lucky democratic candidates paired up with a talented campaign manager via the . When I say I would’ve given up without Maggie, it is no exaggeration. Maggie is incredibly talented in so many ways, but one that I don’t think is recognized by many is that she knows when to push in and when to take strategic breathers. She is a whiz at understanding voter connection and behavior. She seems to have energy for days, even in the height of summer. She is all around who I imagine when I think about people who can change this world. I am privileged to have had her by my side and even more privileged to call her a friend.

On top of leading the strategy behind my campaign, Maggie was also helping ALL of the democratic candidates. Our foundation is stronger because of her.

Now, Maggie is heading to Paris, France to begin a Masters in Political Data Strategy (she leaves tomorrow!). I can’t think of anything more suited for you, Maggie. I will miss you so much, and I don’t think this new reality has truly set in.

I leave this with a touch of humor. For those that don’t know, Maggie also has a knack for fostering kittens. And man weren’t we all (me and my fellow Dem candidates) a bunch of foster kittens she whipped into shape so we can be better without her 😻

(I’m cross-posting this on campaign and personal pages in hopes it reaches all of Maggie’s people)

When I decided to run for school board nearly a year ago I knew it would be one of the hardest things I’ve ever done. And I’ve done hard things.

I knew this would not be easy. I was, and remain, an underdog. A woman. A democrat. In deep red Tennessee. But this is my home. I love my home and the people here. Despite this, I felt a surreal peace in my decision running for local office. I felt this peace, over and over, pushing me forward throughout this whole thing. On hard days I told myself “if anything I’m a choice people like me didn’t have before.” While I didn’t win, I outran the last republican candidate that ran for this office. The work that I, and so many of your neighbors, have done to give you choices means something, even if we didn’t win.

Whenever I’ve asked the big “why” to the universe, it is nearly always followed by some of the best people entering into my life. And that is what has happened here. My community expanded 10-fold with some of the best people I have ever met. Our hard work, camaraderie, team work, and dedication to community has given me hope. I’m really looking forward to how this continues to unspool.

And overall, the answer is simple. We must. We must continue to work to provide choice. We must provide alternative leadership. We must continue being a voice for everyone. We must. We must. We must.

Many of us were the first democrats to run these races. But we won’t be the last. We have turned up a wake that will pull more people in, who will bring more people in, and on and on and on.

And the best thing? Everyone is welcome to the community.

So this isn’t the last of us. Or me. We just may look different. We’re certainly gonna act different; because we know the power of community and we want you all to be a part of it.

I also want to leave with gratitude. I want to thank my family- Brian for never second guessing me and clearing the path on the home front so I could focus on this. Josie for being my why. Always. Mom and Dad for jumping in and being my biggest cheerleaders.

Thank you to Maggie and Jess- my two right hands. Your unique areas of expertise kept me from giving up. More thanks are coming your way soon. To everyone who showed up to help- with literally everything- writing post cards, phone banking, and canvassing-thank you. I am eternally grateful.

Until the next. -Pam

I want to slightly interrupt my own campaign to share more about one of my biggest cheerleaders: Brittany for Democratic State Executive Committee District 17

Brittany has been alongside me for so long, that I can’t remember when we met. All I know is that I have had a friend in Brittany this whole time. And what a friend she is. She provides a wealth of knowledge, effort, confidence, and fearlessness that, frankly, intimidates me (in a good way).

Brittany has helped organize the Wilson County Democratic Party and candidate support for this election cycle. Her leadership, tenacity, and selflessness is something that I aspire to.

Alongside supporting all of the local candidates, Brittany is running her own race to serve as Executive Committeewoman for the TN Democratic Party. I don’t think there is anyone more fit for this role. In this role she will support the state party and county parties organize and plug in. We all need this and Brittany has direct experience to be successful, day one.

I encourage everyone who pulls a democratic ballot to vote for her. This position is not as well known as some of the other races, but it is SO important. On my ballot, Brittany was towards the end of the first page. If you have any questions about Brittany’s campaign or your ballot, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me!

We have one last day of action! This time, I’m joining forces with Natalie Flores for Wilson County TN County Commission D23 to hit up some of our shared neighbors! We’d love to have you join us- even if you’d rather drive and stay in the car (having a literal chauffeur is game changing)!

Show me your stickers!

It’s my birthday and all I want is to see that you’ve voted for the Aug. 6 election! Send me your sticker pics!

I got to change up the pace a bit last week for an incredible work experience. And, of course, it still resonates with the work I hope to do for Wilson County Schools and our students, teachers, and community.
