Congratulations to Chriscinda on being accepted to the Oscar Howe Summer Art Institute for the second year in a row!
The Oscar Howe Summer Art Institute, held at the University of South Dakota, is a highly respected program that provides talented high school students the opportunity to work with professional artists, explore a variety of artistic techniques and media, and further develop their creative skills in a college-level environment. The institute is inspired by the legacy of Oscar Howe, the renowned Yanktonai Dakota artist known for blending traditional Native American themes with contemporary art styles.
Chriscinda continues to grow as an artist and has created many meaningful works that reflect both her creativity and her Native American heritage. We are proud of her dedication, hard work, and artistic accomplishments, and we look forward to seeing all she achieves through this wonderful opportunity. Congratulations, Chriscinda!

Then it was off to the Emergency Room to learn and experience a code and see how the Lucas device can be used to help staff. We got to have hands on learning with the IO device drilling into chicken bones and eggs. We got to learn how the evade system works speaking directly to doctors and staff at another facility (Avera in Sioux Falls) to help when care team members may not be available. learning their role in the team. Learning about respiratory therapy and their roles and seeing how intubation works and the devices used to do so. Then we were off to Rehab services with careers as PT, PTA, OT, OTA, Speech Pathology and how each specialty helps the person return functionality. We spent time in lab doing a hands on learning of typing blood lea ring about careers in phlebotomy, and laboratory technology. Seeing how the lab works testing body fluids and tissues and even learning about blood banking and how it all works. We got a VIP tour of the OR. You can see pictures of us dressing to go in but no pictures while inside the OR. We did learn about who is in surgeries and careers like a scrub tech and different nursing roles in the OR. We wrapped up the day dissection of a heart. Seeing the inside of a heart was absolutely a high light for many. Thank you so much Avera and Big Stone Therapies for an amazing field experience and business partnership. We can’t wait to get students shadowing these amazing professional.
