The current exhibit at the Archives of Asbury Theological Seminary, located on the lower floor of the library, explores African-American Women in the Holiness Movement. The doctrine of sanctification helped open opportunities for many marginalized groups, including African-American women, to become actively involved in ministry. This exhibit explores that history through the lives and ministries of African-American women in Methodism, the Holiness Movement, and early Pentecostalism.

Feel free to stop by the library and visit the exhibit if you’re interested! We have also produced a First Fruits book to accompany the exhibit for those who would like to learn more: “God’s Image Carved in Ebony”: African-American Women in the Holiness Movement. The BL Fisher Library at Asbury Theological Seminary is actively working to digitize audio and video materials from its archives, making important historical resources more accessible to researchers and the public. Among our recent projects is the digitization of more than 40 episodes of Miracles Today and other video footage featuring A. A. Allen, a prominent healing evangelist of the late 1950s and 1960s. Allen's ministry provides an important window into the healing revival movement of the era. Notably, his services featured integrated congregations, an integrated choir, and often an African American music leader—an uncommon practice for the time. Links for the digitized materials and an article on Allen from Asbury today can be found in the comments. An image of A. A. Allen conducting a healing crusade in Cuba during the 1960s is also included.

Did you know that the library of Asbury Theological Seminary also hosts Asbury's academic journal, The Asbury Journal? This journal has been around for 80 years and contains writing from students, staff, faculty, and outside scholars. You can find one article from the current issue below. This one is a history of women at Asbury Theological Seminary. The article goes back to the role of Bettie Morrison in the founding of the Seminary and travels through the highs and lows of women faculty and students through the years.
