Texas teacher Leigha Bishop showed her 4-year-old student August Burroughs just how special her new hairstyle was by coming to school the next day with the same look.

The sweet moment reminded everyone how powerful it is when children feel seen, celebrated, and confident just as they are.

Today, we remember Dolly Parton and the incredible legacy she leaves behind in the world of books, literacy, and childhood learning. 📚💛

In 1995, Dolly founded the Imagination Library with a simple belief: every child deserves the opportunity to grow up with books. What started as a local effort in her hometown grew into a global literacy program, putting hundreds of millions of books into the hands and homes of children around the world.

Dolly understood something we see every day in our libraries: a book can open a door to imagination, discovery, confidence, and possibility.

From all of us at the Wilmington Public Library System, thank you, Dolly, for believing in the power of books and for helping generations of children discover the joy of reading.

Your legacy will live on in every story shared, every imagination sparked, and every child who discovers a book they love. 📖❤️

We are proud to recognize the programs that have successfully completed comprehensive cohort experiences with DIEEC in Early Language and Literacy, Pyramid Model, and Zero to Three.

Over the past several months, these dedicated educators have strengthened their teaching practices through learning opportunities and coaching, deepening their interactions with children and building strategies to support high-quality early childhood experiences.
