Our IFSA member, Lani Akande, publishes "The 'Inside-Out' Realist Cinema in Nigeria: A New Tradition of Publicizing the Hidden’ in Discourse: Journal for Theoretical Studies in Media and Culture.

We congratulate Lani Akande of Film Studies for his article "The 'Inside-Out' Realist Cinema in Nigeria: A New Tradition of Publicizing the Hidden" in Discourse: Journal for Theoretical Studies in Media and Culture. In the article, he theorizes a post‑2010 Nigerian film tradition that drags out private, hidden, or “backstage” realities like economic struggle, social embarrassment, industry precarity, and makes them public through narrative, cinematic and aesthetic composition. Instead of escapism or glamour, the camera foregrounds everyday life as it is lived, while erasing the barrier between the private and the public.
