140 years is a lot of lives, careers, friendships, milestones, and memories.

Since 1886, generations of students have come to Goldey-Beacom College with an idea of where they wanted to go next. Along the way, our campus, our programs, and the world around us have changed quite a bit. But that forward momentum has always been part of the GBC story.

Today, on Goldey Gives Day, we’re celebrating all 140 years of it. The people who got us here. The students writing the next chapter. And everyone who believes in what this small college can make possible.

If GBC has been part of your story, we’d love for you to be part of what comes next. 💙⚡

It’s official: meet the five GBC students who will be featured on The College Tour! 🎬⚡

Each cast member brings a different story and perspective on what it means to be a Bolt.

-Lavance is a commuter student and poet who works in the Lightning Sensory Room, serves as President of the Lit Club, and is Vice President of the Accessible Voices Alliance.

-Josh is an international student-athlete who came to GBC to play soccer and now helps welcome future Bolts through his work in Admissions.

-Nahomi is an international student, tennis player, and recent GBC graduate who found a home away from home on our campus.

-Crystal is an MBA student bringing more than 20 years of professional experience to her next chapter while staying involved on campus and beyond.

-Alex Ozor is a marketing management student whose interests range from music and lacrosse to motorcycles and esports, and he’s preparing to graduate this May.

We’re excited for you to get to know all five of them and experience GBC through their stories when The College Tour comes to campus!

A big thank you to *The College Tour* host Alex Boylan for Zooming in from sunny California for our AMA. We can’t wait to welcome you to Delaware in a few weeks! And we were glad to have Lavance, Nahomi, and Alex with us in person for the cast reveal. 💙

There’s one day every year when students, alumni, faculty, staff, families and friends come together to celebrate what it means to be part of the GBC community. ⚡💙

Homecoming 2026 is Saturday, October 3! Whether you’re making new memories at GBC or coming back to the place where so many of yours began, we hope you’ll spend the day with us.

Come early and stay all day. Tailgating begins at 10 a.m., followed by Homecoming activities at 11 a.m. Bring your family, reconnect with old friends and enjoy food trucks, a DJ, inflatables, a photo booth, face painting, a balloon artist, caricatures, henna, friendship bracelet making, a dunk tank, kids’ activities, community partners, alumni activities and more.

And come early if you want some new GBC gear! The first 100 guests will receive a FREE Homecoming T-shirt.

There will be plenty of opportunities to cheer on the Lightning throughout the day:

🥎 11 a.m. | Softball
🏐 12 p.m. | Women’s Volleyball
⚽ 12 p.m. | Women’s Soccer
⚽ 2:30 p.m. | Men’s Soccer + Homecoming Court crowned at halftime
🏀 3 p.m. | Women’s Basketball Scrimmage

This year, there’s another exciting reason to be on campus. The College Tour will be filming during Homecoming for GBC’s upcoming episode! The series streams on Amazon Prime, and GBC will be the FIRST Delaware college featured. Guests will have the chance to see a national TV production happening right here on campus while enjoying Homecoming.

For our alumni, this is your invitation to come home. See what’s changed, revisit the places you remember and reconnect with the people and community that were part of your GBC experience.

For parents and families, come experience the community your student is part of and spend a Saturday making some GBC memories of your own.

And for our students, faculty and staff, Homecoming only comes around once a year. Classes, work and everything else move quickly, but days like this are worth making time for.

Our usual three-day weekend just got a holiday upgrade. 😎

With no Friday classes at GBC and Labor Day on Monday, our students get a four-day weekend to enjoy the unofficial end of summer. And judging by that smile, Gigi’s pup, Viva, is making the most of it too. 🐾

We hope our Bolts have a fun, safe, and relaxing Labor Day weekend! ⚡️💙

Preparation. Perseverance. Purpose.

Those three ideas are at the heart of how Dr. Scott Glenn, Assistant Professor of Business at Goldey-Beacom College, approaches teaching and mentoring students.

In the classroom, Dr. Glenn focuses on helping students connect what they learn to real-world challenges, understand their strengths and keep growing through mistakes. It’s an approach built around preparing students not just for the next assignment, but for what comes after college.

His advice says it simply: “Preparation is what matters.”

Learn more about Dr. Glenn’s classroom philosophy in our latest blog, inspired by his conversation on the *Practice to Profession* podcast. Then listen to the full podcast episode.

Are gaming athletes real athletes? 🎮

Competitive esports takes focus, strategy, quick decision-making, hand-eye coordination and teamwork. At Goldey-Beacom College, our esports athletes put those skills to work through regular practice and competition across games including Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Valorant, Marvel Rivals and Rocket League.

Along the way, they’re building community, sharpening their skills and competing at a high level.

Service is often found in the little things: encouraging a student, helping a colleague, solving a problem before anyone even knows it exists.

This year, Goldey-Beacom College is celebrating two people whose care, consistency, and dedication have made a lasting impact on our community: the 2026 President’s Service Award recipients, Dr. Traci Currie, Assistant Professor of Communications and Media, and Laura Cintavey, Auxiliary Services Coordinator.

Dr. Currie was recognized for the confidence she helps students build and for creating spaces where people feel encouraged to share their voices. One colleague wrote, “Students who once dreaded public speaking leave her classes feeling confident and inspired to share their voices in ways they never imagined possible.”

Laura was recognized for the thoughtful, behind-the-scenes work that helps campus events, rentals, and bookstore operations run smoothly. As her nomination shared, “Clients come back because of the experience they have here, and that experience is often shaped by her professionalism, kindness, and attention to detail.”

Congratulations, Dr. Currie and Laura, and thank you to all seven of this year’s nominees for the many ways you support our students, colleagues, and GBC community. ⚡💙

A warm welcome to our newest Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology students! ⚡💙

This past weekend, we kicked off the semester with MACP orientation, giving students the chance to meet faculty, staff, and one another while getting familiar with the resources available to support them at Goldey-Beacom College.

From academic advising and library services to the Wellness Center, orientation was all about helping our newest graduate students feel connected, prepared, and ready for what’s ahead.

We’re so glad to have this new cohort as part of the GBC community and can’t wait to see all they accomplish this semester.

Learning is supposed to challenge us, and that challenge can help prepare students for whatever comes next.

In the latest episode of Practice to Profession, Mary Wheeling, Director of Faculty Development and Associate Professor of English and Humanities at Goldey-Beacom College, talks about how faculty support student success in a changing world.

From communication and critical thinking to creativity, collaboration, and navigating artificial intelligence, Mary shares why strong teaching is about more than delivering information. It’s about helping students build skills they can carry into their careers and communities.

She also reminds us that mistakes and questions are part of learning, not signs that learning has gone wrong.
