The Lyceum Academy was established by Gordon Massengill in 1998 at New Hanover High School.
The Lyceum Academy is composed of 100 students in the Senior Class, and 100 students in the Junior Class. These are selected through an application and interview process, the latter of which is sometimes conducted with the aide of graduating Academy members. Meet our Lyceum Student of the Week, Lily Williams! Lily is a senior who has been involved in theater at NHHS for four years and participates in National Honor Society and the Surfriders Club. She enjoys taking private ice-skating lessons at the Polar Ice House, video editing, and baking. In the future, Lily hopes to pursue a degree in forensic science and become either a forensic investigator or a crime analyst. Congratulations, Lily!

Meet our Lyceum Student of the Week, Kai Davis! Kai is a senior who is involved in Beta Club, National Honor Society, Hanover Singers, and the school’s afterschool musical. A dedicated leader, Kai directed last year’s school production of Beetlejuice and has also directed several in-class plays for Theater. In their free time, Kai enjoys participating in local theater productions, making art, and spending time with friends. Looking ahead, Kai hopes to pursue a career in musical theater. Congratulations to Kaylie Clark, an 11th grader, for being named this Student of the Week! Kaylie is a dedicated member of both the golf team and the lacrosse team, and she also serves as the president of the Meals on Wheels Club. Outside of school, she enjoys spending time on the boat and walking her dog. One of her personal goals this year is to learn how to ski.

Congratulations to Vlad Willock, a junior, for being named this Student of the Week! Vlad is a member of the golf team and an active participant in Beta Club. Meet senior Ash Bocikova, our newest Lyceum Student of the Week! Ash is an active member of the school’s theater program, working behind the scenes as a stagehand and helping bring the school musical to life. Meet senior Akshaya, our newest Lyceum Student of the Week! Akshaya is an active member of several school clubs, including HOSA, Battle of the Books, and Girls Who Code. Outside of school, she has trained in Bharatanatyam for years and has served as a teacher’s assistant in her dance class for the past two years. In her free time, Akshaya enjoys listening to music, reading books, and spending time with friends. Looking toward the future, she plans to pursue a Ph.D. in biotechnology and become a medical geneticist. Congratulations, Akshaya!
