The WFS field hockey seniors ran a clinic for 5th through 8th grade students on Thursday afternoon. Participants worked on their dribbling, passing, and receiving skills throughout the morning.

We can’t wait to see our defending State Champions back on the field this fall. Go Blue!

Congratulations to Ava Steinberger ’23 on being elected student body Co-President at Bates College!

Ava, a senior Philosophy major with a concentration in Film and Media Studies, has been involved in student government since her first year and is also a member of the Bates women’s tennis team.

On the latest episode of the Quaker Matters Podcast, WFS Director of Athletics Brad Greenman breaks down his first year, the lessons that student-athletes learn through athletics, and his hopes for the 2026–27 school year:

“I believe our athletics are an extension of the classroom. We base our program on educational athletics, where every student has the opportunity to grow, whether they’re competing for a State Championship or if they are trying a sport for the first time. We want our students to challenge themselves, to build confidence, and develop skills that will serve them past graduation.”

Taj A. ’32 and Jack J. ’32 helped Naamans Little League win the Delaware State Championship! Beginning Friday, they will compete in the East Regional in hopes of securing a spot in the Little League World Series.

Please join us in welcoming Jacob Lane as the new WFS boys’ varsity soccer head coach!

Coach Lane joins the Quakers after spending the previous three seasons on the coaching staff at Archmere Academy, where he helped develop a competitive and successful program. A graduate of A.I. duPont High School and the University of Delaware, Jacob brings both a strong soccer background and a passion for developing student-athletes. Throughout the summer, he has been getting to know the team while implementing new strategies and techniques to establish the foundation for the program.

Coach Lane is excited to lead the Quakers this fall and looks forward to building a competitive, team-first culture while guiding the program to a successful season.

Please join us in welcoming Mike Zampini as the new WFS girls’ volleyball coach!

Coach Zampini brings over 25 years of coaching experience to WFS. He led the following programs as their head coach: Milford, Delmarva Christian, Concord, and Wilmington Christian. He also directed the JV program at WFS, serving as head coach from 2009 to 2013.

During his years as a head coach, he led multiple teams to the DIAA State Tournament. Since 2020, he has coached at Premier Volleyball Club across various levels and directed its Sussex County Branch. Coach Zampini looks forward to leading the Quakers this fall and building a strong, successful season in the West Gym.

Sara Clothier ’26 will continue her academic and athletic career at Bowdoin College as a member of the field hockey team.

During her time at WFS, Sara was a member of both the field hockey and girls’ soccer programs. A four-year starter and team captain in field hockey, she earned First Team All-State honors multiple times and was part of the winningest class in program history; she helped the Class of 2026 compile 60 career wins (a school record), score 271 total goals, appear in four State Semifinals and two State Championship games (2025 State Champions), and capture three DISC titles. A four-year starter and team captain on the soccer field as well, Sara earned multiple First Team All-DISC honors for her outstanding defensive play and helped lead the Quakers to the 2026 DIAA State Championship.
