Since 1975, when our first law class graduated, Delaware Law has been a trusted resource in the region. We have educated nearly 12,000 alumni, many of whom have risen to positions of leadership on the bench and in the bar. Th

e only law school in the state, Delaware Law School is enmeshed in Delaware's unique legal culture which prizes civility and respect within the bench and bar. Delaware's preeminence in corporate law, bankruptcy, and intellectual property, combined with the Law School's influential presence in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, give students abundant opportunities for clerkships, externships, pro bono experiences, and permanent employment after graduation. We emphasize applied learning and community engagement with a new curriculum and pedagogical model that gives every student frequent opportunities for expression and feedback. Our distinctive experiential and interdisciplinary signature programs give students additional opportunities to specialize in corporate law, environmental law, family and health law, and advocacy. We emphasize the tools students need to do what lawyers do best: help those who face legal challenges needing practical solutions. We lead in public service, professional training, and continuing legal education. We teach with purpose to make a real difference for our students, our alumni, and our extended legal community. Justice isn't always about winning a case. Sometimes it's about having the courage to question whether the system got it right in the first place.

At Widener University Delaware Law School, students in the Innocence Project Delaware Legal Clinic are doing just that, reviewing transcripts, investigating claims of innocence, visiting prisons, and advocating for people who may have been wrongfully convicted.

The clinic gives students an opportunity to confront one of the most difficult realities in law: when justice fails, correcting that failure requires persistence, humility and an unwavering commitment to the truth.

Thank you to Judith Ritter, Dan Signs, Annie Sanker and Carolyn Levitz for sharing their perspectives and helping tell the story of a program that is making a difference for students, clients and the pursuit of justice.

Widener University Delaware Law School was recognized by The National Jurist for significant improvement in graduate employment outcomes over the past decade. The publication, which covers legal education nationwide, reported a 20‑point increase in Delaware Law’s quality‑adjusted employment rate based on ABA data and a weighted model emphasizing full‑time, long‑term, bar‑required roles.

The gains reflect sustained investment in practice‑ready training, clinics and externships, individualized advising, and employer partnerships. For prospective students, employment strength remains a key indicator of long‑term value, and Delaware Law’s progress highlights a growing career pipeline supported by experiential learning and alumni engagement.

Today, Delaware Law community members volunteered at YDC Fest, joining the celebration of the new Youth Development Center in downtown Wilmington.

During the opening ceremony, Ihsan Muhammad, chief strategy officer of the Community Education Building, noted, “The building is a space for youth to learn who they are and who they will become.” We were glad to contribute and help welcome the community to a space that will soon be part of our neighborhood.

Delaware Law School student Carson Francis recently earned a top placement in the Montgomery County District Attorney’s annual mock trial competition, the culminating exercise for certified legal interns serving in the district attorney’s office.

Francis was recognized after prosecuting a challenging fictitious homicide case before senior members of the district attorney’s leadership team. The competition featured second-year interns from a variety of law schools across the region, all of whom spent the summer handling probation violation hearings, guilty pleas and other proceedings under prosecutor supervision.

Congratulations to Carson on this outstanding accomplishment and on representing Delaware Law with such skill and professionalism.

Professor Girley kicked off the semester with an engaging dive into the Federal Rules of Evidence. Students will explore relevance, hearsay, impeachment, experts, and the deeper questions of how evidence shapes equity and justice.

Girley brings a dynamic blend of civil rights litigation and media leadership to Delaware Law, with experience spanning the Girley Law Firm, the Christian Cultural Center, and Ambo TV. She holds degrees from Duke Law, Yale Divinity School, and NYU, and her scholarship examines the intersection of race, religion, and law.
