Widener University Delaware Law School is proud to celebrate Amanpreet Kaur, who earned first place in the second annual Montgomery County Trial Advocacy Academy Mock Trial Competition, hosted by District Attorney Kevin R. Steele.

Kaur topped a field of 20 second- and third‑year law students who trained for weeks with deputy and assistant district attorneys before trying a fictitious homicide case in a multi‑round competition.

Delaware Law was strongly represented across the board. Destyn Snyder joined Kaur as a finalist in the mock trial competition. First‑year students Jude MacDonald and William Kleeman advanced to the final round of the opening statement competition

The final round was judged by First Assistant District Attorney Edward F. McCann Jr., with DA Steele and members of his leadership team serving on the jury. Winners received BARBRI bar prep course credits in recognition of their achievement.

This competition capped a month of intensive weekend sessions focused on openings, closings and cross‑examination—an experience that continues to highlight Delaware Law students’ growing strength in advocacy.

👏 Congratulations to all our outstanding advocates!

With just over two months until the bar exam, the pressure is building but so is the support.

One of the most beloved Delaware Law traditions is the spring review event that turns bar prep into a lively, community‑driven celebration. Faculty cheer from the jury box, students team up, music fills the room, and even a “celebrity dog” joins in.

It’s a reminder that bar prep is demanding, but never solitary at Delaware Law. Wishing our students strength and focus in the weeks ahead. We’ve got your back every step of the way.

Dean Clark shares his thoughts and condolences on the passing of ’79 Widener Law alum and former Wilmington Mayor Mike Purzycki--

We join the Wilmington and Delaware communities in mourning the passing of former Mayor Mike Purzycki, a 1979 Widener Law School alum and a true visionary leader whose impact on our city will endure for generations.

Mayor Purzycki was not only a transformational public servant, credited with revitalizing Wilmington’s Riverfront and helping to reshape the vitality of our downtown, but he was also a great friend to me personally and to Delaware Law School.

Our law school’s move to downtown Wilmington is, in many ways, a reflection of Mayor Purzycki’s vision for a more vibrant, connected, and thriving city. He believed deeply in bringing institutions, people, and opportunity together in the heart of Wilmington, and his leadership helped make that vision a reality.

Mayor Purzycki also made a lasting impression on our students. Last summer, Delaware Law School facilitated its first Student Leadership Institute. Mayor Purzycki took the time to meet with our students and spoke candidly about the challenges he encountered as a leader. His honesty and transparency resonated deeply. Many of our students later shared their sincere appreciation for his willingness to share not only his successes, but also the obstacles he faced along the way. That moment was powerful and it helped inspire one of the strongest exhibitions of student leadership we have seen in the history of Delaware Law School.

On a personal level, I will always be grateful for Mayor Purzycki’s friendship. He was generous with his time, always willing to talk through ideas, and consistently supportive of the work we are doing to serve our students and this community.
Mayor Purzycki’s legacy is one of bold vision, service, and an unwavering commitment to Wilmington. We will honor that legacy by continuing to invest in this city and its future.

Our thoughts are with his family and all who were fortunate enough to know him.
