Today, Pamlico County Primary School welcomed literacy leaders from across the Southeast, reflecting a shared commitment to ongoing collaboration around high-quality, impactful literacy instruction. What began several years ago with a small group engaged in the science of reading has grown into a strong network of districts dedicated to sharing ideas and resources, while engaging in meaningful reflection and feedback to continue growing as literacy leaders.
During their visit, the group spent time in classrooms observing the impact of strong instructional practices in action, where intentional, research-based strategies are helping students build confidence and skills as readers. They also participated in a PLC session, gaining insight into how lessons are thoughtfully planned and aligned across grade levels to ensure consistency, rigor, and student success.
At Pamlico County Primary School, reading is more than a focus, it’s a foundation. By prioritizing literacy, the school is opening doors for students in every subject area, reinforcing the belief that when students can read, they can learn anything.

This was a great day! Principal Sophie and principal Dory did an amazing job of shadowing and being principal for a day with a badge and a radio! Seriously, though it was a wonderful opportunity to allow community members to experience a glimpse into a day in the life of a principal and an assistant principal.

100 years old! Our Kindergarten & First Grade students sang happy birthday!!! She was so surprised and so happy, but she kept saying, “I needed to get dressed. I’m not dressed”, but she looked gorgeous. Her house is across the street from our school. I just want to sit and talk to her…. in 100 years, she has seen a lot!
