People do not always volunteer because they do not care.
Sometimes the ask feels too big, too unclear, or too open-ended.
Instead of asking, “Who wants to help?” make the first step smaller.
Try:
“Can you take the first 10 minutes?”
or
“Can you help with one part of this?”
A smaller ask lowers the pressure and makes it easier for someone to say yes.
That is how momentum starts.

What does meaningful community leadership look like?
There is no single path to creating change. Some leaders organize their neighbors. Others advocate for policy, serve on boards, run for office, or build solutions from within their communities.
The DC Action Summit is an opportunity to explore those pathways and discover where your own leadership can make the greatest impact.
You'll hear from local changemakers, reflect on the issues shaping your community, and learn how LEE supports leaders through coaching, training, resources, and a powerful network of peers committed to creating lasting change.
Whether you're just beginning your civic journey or looking for your next step, this conversation is designed to help you move forward with greater clarity and confidence.
