A championship summer on the water! ⛵️

Congratulations to Brendan Mack '28, who captured the 2026 MAYRA South Jersey Summer Series ILCA 7 Fleet Championship (his second consecutive fleet title) and was named the 2026 United States Sunfish Class Association Youth of the Year.

Brendan also earned his US Sailing Level 1 Instructor certification and spent the summer teaching the next generation of sailors.

Congratulations on an incredible summer, Brendan!

Runs in the family! During PREP at Back to School Night, StuCo decided to honor and surprise their parents by bringing them all down to ring the gong to thank them for all the work they’ve done to get them to this point. Justin Meko (father of Student Council President Connor Meko ‘27) gave the crowd an electric (and deafening!) gong ring to start off a fun night for the parents.

The evening begins with a general presentation in the gym at 6:30 PM, followed by the chance to walk through your student’s schedule and meet each of his teachers. Please try to arrive by 6:15 PM as parking will be tight.

“The mistakes you have made do not define you as a person.”

At our first all-school Mass of the year, Sean Callaghan ’27 stood before his brothers and shared something deeply personal: his own Salesianum journey hasn’t been perfect. Sean reflected on mistakes he made in his freshman year, the consequences that followed, and his sophomore Quo Vadis retreat experience that challenged him and a friend to see the opportunity he had been given differently.

His message to his brothers was simple: growth requires a decision. Embrace the community around you. Learn from your mistakes. Invest fully in your time here. And, like Peter in the Gospel, be willing to trust God enough to put the nets back into the water.

“You just have to take the first step into the boat and trust what God is calling you to do.”

Faith grows when it is lived, shared, and encouraged by others.

Salesianum sophomore Lucas Morri ’29 was recently featured in The Dialog’s “One of Us” series, sharing how his mother has helped inspire his faith and the importance of staying connected to God through both the highs and lows of life.

We’re proud to see Lucas sharing his faith beyond Broom Street and representing what it means to be a Salesian Gentleman.

Not everyone spent summer vacation relaxing. AJ Pennington ’29 and his four-legged partner, June, had work to do! This summer, AJ dedicated his time to training June to become a certified therapy dog through PAWS for People. After plenty of hard work, June officially graduated from the program, and the pair are now qualified to visit local senior living communities, bringing comfort and companionship to residents. We love seeing our Salesian Gentlemen find their own ways to serve others and make a difference in their communities.

Congratulations to AJ and June on a summer well spent!
