Quantitative EEG & Neurofeedback Program at the Clinic --

Brain Mapping has been a long time resource for Clinicians who seek to find a root problem in the brain and assist in retraining it!

This is how it works at the Clinic:
The patient will come into our treatment room and be seated at a table by our Brainmaster qEEG equipment. The first step in recording a qEEG is preparation. The skin above the eyebrows and the ear lobe are prepped with a painless gel to remove dead skin cells from the surface of the forehead and ears. The patient will then put a treatment hat on with built in electrodes (similar to a swim cap).

Process

The wells of the electrodes are then filled with a flat-tip needle loaded with electrode gel, to establish a better connection. Once this is complete, recording starts. The patient then will be instructed to stay as still as possible while recording, 10 minutes eyes open, and then 10 minutes eyes closed.

QEEG

Quantitative EEG is the software analysis of regular EEG data. The QEEG detailed software analysis allows us to visualize surface brain activity in a way that is not apparent with routine EEG’s. QEEG can elegantly identify areas of brain under- or over functioning, localize brain injury, identify dysregulation and seizures.

Result?

The recorded data is then processed through software to generate a brain map, which establishes a training protocol to treat conditions such as ADHD or OCD. Analysis of the qEEG recording takes approximately 1-2 weeks. Once the qEEG is interpreted and the brain map is constructed, the protocol for treatment is developed.

Mast Cells and Autism: A vital read.

🌼 Mast Cells & Autism

Mast cells are immune cells that help protect the body, but when overactive, they can release inflammatory chemicals that affect the brain, gut, and behavior. Mast cell activation is increasingly linked to autism and may play a role in symptoms like anxiety, brain fog, and sensory challenges. Identifying triggers and calming the immune response can help support better regulation and overall well-being.

🧠 Watch for symptoms like flushing, headaches, brain fog, and skin reactions
⚠️ Recognize triggers such as foods, infections, stress, and environmental exposures
🧬 Understand how mast cells can impact the blood-brain barrier and drive inflammation
🥦 Use diet, supplements, and medications to help stabilize mast cells
🧘 Focus on reducing triggers and calming the immune system

The Relationship Between Anti-inflammatory Diets and Mental Health Symptoms

Summary: Chronic inflammation has been linked to both physical and mental health conditions. While acute inflammation is a normal immune response that supports healing after injury or infection, chronic inflammation may contribute to the development of illnesses such as cardiovascular disease, cancer, autoimmune conditions, and cognitive decline. Research has also identified associations between chronic inflammation and mental health disorders including depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and anxiety. Stress appears to play an important role in this relationship, as chronic stress can activate the sympathetic nervous system and the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis, increasing the production of inflammatory cytokines.

Dr Harum is a Medical Academy of Pediatrics & Special Needs - MAPS Provider and recommends this fantastic listen about Movement, Nutrition and Sleep - Keys to Healthy Kids!

Movement. Nutrition. Sleep.
Pediatric neurologist John Gaitanis, MD, FMAPS, explains that when these foundational elements are in place, medication burden often drops and targeted therapies work more effectively. This is not anti-medication; it is an approach that prioritizes addressing underlying physiology first.
This integrated approach is reinforced throughout the MAPS Conference, where clinicians examine how lifestyle inputs alongside medical interventions shape patient outcomes.
