Dear Springer Community,
Later this month, I will assume the role of Principal at Brandywine High School. It has been an honor serving this community over the past 3 years. Establishing a culture at Springer that emphasized academic growth and a safe, vibrant learning environment was paramount. That was only achieved through the incredible collective work ethic of the entire staff. Springer has one of the best administrative, educational, and support staffs in the entire State of Delaware. Being witness to the level of commitment and ex*****on the Springer team brings each and every day to educate and help students is inspiring. Furthermore, we could not have achieved our mission of creating a strong learning environment that supports all students without the trust and belief I received from this entire community. When I met with Springer staff yesterday to inform them of this transition, I told them that every farewell is an opportunity to appreciate what was shared and that parting is easier when gratitude fills the space. So with that, I want to simply say thank you for allowing me to lead this incredible school and serve this wonderful community. We have shared many memories and successes over the past three years, preparing students for the rigors of high school and beyond.
I am happy to announce that Mr. Mark Overly, the Principal at Carrcroft Elementary, will be taking over as Principal at Springer Middle School in my place. Mr. Overly brings over 17 years of experience in building administration and school leadership. Mr. Overly is a Brandywine resident and former Springer parent. I am fully confident that Springer will continue its upward trajectory through his leadership and commitment to this community.
Once again, thank you for an incredible 3 years at Springer. Although I am sad to leave, I am excited to lead Brandywine High School and carry on their tradition of excellence as one of the top-ranked comprehensive public schools in the state. With rigorous academic programs, successful athletic teams, and a dynamic staff, I cannot wait to serve and lead the Brandywine High School community with the same energy and enthusiasm that I brought to Springer. As always, I am proud to be a Bulldog and proud to be BSD!
All The Best,
Dr. Sterling H. Seemans
Principal

Members of the Springer golf team had the wonderful experience of being invited to the LPGA ShopRite Classic yesterday at Seaview Golf Club in Galloway, NJ through the First Tee of Delaware. Students spent the morning volunteering for Project Smile. Students from underprivileged areas came to Seaview to have dental exams and procedures done at no cost to improve their dental health. It was a great way to give back to the community.
We also spent the afternoon watching the world’s best female golfers play an incredible Donald Ross and Hugh Wilson design right on the bay outside of Atlantic City, NJ. It was an incredible experience for our students and we are so proud of them for their efforts on and off of the course. Brandywine School District

Our Entrepreneurship class had their end of the year market day project. Students have spent the semester learning about business. They were tasked with coming up with a product or service to sell at our lunches. Students presented pilots and spent the past several months planning for this big day. Students, staff, and families had the opportunity to partake in this day during all three lunches and the students got to keep the funds they made from their products! It was a wonderful experience for all. Thank you to Mr. Carlson for organizing this annual event!

Last week we had the opportunity to welcome the Governor to Springer Middle School for a visit where he toured classrooms and participated in a question-and-answer session in front of our period 2 Social Studies classes. Students submitted questions and expressed what laws or rules they would change if they were governor of Delaware. It was an educational and engaging session where our students learned more about the executive branch of government. As the chief executive officer of their state, governors are responsible for implementing state laws, overseeing the operation of state agencies, and acting as commander-in-chief of the state's National Guard.
Governor Meyer was gracious with his time and we hope that he experienced what makes the Brandywine School District great! We really are 16 great schools and 1 strong community. We were thoroughly impressed with the questions our students asked which ranged from issues on transportation and homelessness to concerns in education and food costs. It was evident that our students have been applying themselves in their Social Studies classes and were prepared to get the most out of the moment! We want to thank Governor Meyer for his time and willingness to speak to members of our staff and student body. Matt Meyer

We are one week in with another week to go of the NWEA MAP assessments! Our students crushed their goals and we saw tremendous growth across all grade levels in Reading! Our Goal and Growth Getters are being celebrated throughout the school for giving these assessments their best effort! We have begun putting names of students up who have shown growth and reached their goals on our big display, but there are so many we haven't been able to get them all up yet! Don't worry, we will make sure all students who show growth and/or reach their goals get their names displayed.
Math assessments start today for NWEA MAP and we need students to continue their strong effort! Students will be taking their NWEA MAP assessment in math in their Math classes for the next three days. If you haven’t yet, talk to your child about what their goal was and how they did!
We will be sending out golden tickets in the mail next week to students and their families who showed great effort on these assessments. The golden ticket is an invite for students and families to attend our end of the year block party where we will have games, open gym, and sweet treats for families of students who showed good effort on these exams. Happy Mother’s Day to all of the mothers and guardians who step up to be a part of the village we often call on to help raise our children. We would say no one can disagree that you deserve much more than just a day to celebrate and recognize all of the love, work, and wonderful things that you do for your children and the children in the community!

Our Springer Softball team has continued their amazing dominance again this season. The team has outscored their opponents 139-8 this season and are undefeated for a fourth year in a row. Recently, they scheduled a tough out of state opponent in Avon Grove Middle School and won 11-1. This was the first out of state opponent the Springer Bulldogs have faced in program history! Congratulations girls and good luck in the championship game on Tuesday at Brandywine High School against Talley Middle School. Thank you Coach Pat and Sammy Fyock for your leadership of this amazing team! Brandywine School District
