The team at MarineQuest is beyond excited for Dr. K’s next adventure … RETIREMENT. But to say she is going to be missed is an understatement. Not only has she been a mentor to so many (including all of us), she’s been the wave pushing MarineQuest forward at UNCW for over 13 years. Dr. K is going to leave behind a legacy that has paved the way for our youth to gain a full, hands-on experience as a marine scientist. Our hopes at MarineQuest is that we continue her legacy of high-level creativity, continued academic outreach, and STEM grant initiatives.
As you close this chapter, we hope you always remember this ... MarineQuest is where it is today because of your hard work, dedication and sacrifice!
Love,
The MarineQuest Staff

Watson the Whale will be continuing his adventures this spring! We just received a Fishing for Energy grant from the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, with funding provided by Covanta. Watson will be teaching students specifically about the problem of derelict fishing nets - a very harmful form of marine debris. Watson will also be challenging students to engineer solutions by designing new types of nets and harvesting equipment.
