🎏 Celebrating Children’s Day 🇯🇵 🎏
In Japan, Children’s Day (Kodomo no Hi) is a time to celebrate the happiness, health, and growth of children. Families fly colorful carp streamers (koinobori) that symbolize strength, perseverance, and the ability to overcome challenges—just like the carp that swims upstream.
At the Ed Lab, we see these same qualities in our students every day. Each tutoring session is an opportunity for children to grow, build confidence, and develop resilience as learners. Whether they’re tackling a tough math problem, strengthening their reading skills, or trying something new, they are “swimming upstream” and becoming stronger because of it.
As we wrap up our final sessions, let’s celebrate the progress, determination, and joy our students bring to learning. 🌟

The options are truly endless, and these memorable activities can make your last sessions extra meaningful and fun!
We’re here to help you brainstorm, plan, and bring your ideas to life—so please let us know how we can support you. And don’t forget to check out the CMC for even more resources and inspiration! 💡💛

The Ed Lab was very lucky this afternoon to have three international visiting faculty members from Brazil share their perspectives and expertise with the Ed Lab. 🇧🇷The visiting scholars: Dr. José Aires de Castro, Dr. Juscileide Braga de Castro, and Dr. Dennys Leite Maia were able to engage with current students - college and elementary, enjoy the math fair activities our tutors created, and even try a PB&J sandwich! 📚✏️

Writing doesn’t have to be stationary. ✏️📝✏️ Reminder - Author Showcase submission due this Friday the 13th.

From paper plan ➡️ to purposeful motion ✏️➡️🏃♀️
Today’s place value lesson moved beyond the page and into action. Students became the digits, building numbers with their bodies, regrouping in real time, and physically stepping into the tens and hundreds place. When learning is active, understanding sticks.
There’s something powerful about watching a written plan come alive in the moment: adjusting, responding, and leaning into the energy of the student. 💛

Multiplication took flight today ✈️
Instead of flashcards, we launched paper airplanes across the atrium: each one carrying the start to a multiplication problem - its final location the factor to multiply, and an equation ready to be solved.
Movement + math = engagement that sticks. 💙
When learning feels like play, fluency follows.

The new STEM corner of the Ed Lab prompted lots of questions today thanks to the live web cam! Where is Argentina? What’s the weather like there this time of year? Why are there penguins on a beach? Can they see us? Who could swim faster a student or a penguin? Why do they waddle when they walk? We look forward to leaning more about our spotlight animals! 🐧

Roses are red, violets are blue, our tutors planned amazing lessons, and we’re proud of them too! 💕
Valentine’s week in The Ed Lab was full of purposeful planning and creative instruction. Tutors crafted hands-on activities that reinforced key skills while keeping students engaged and smiling. We LOVE The Ed Lab.
