Smiling on the bike, and that says a lot about what this room feels like. Everyone comes in as they are, and the workout gets adjusted to whatever that day needs to look like, a heavy day, a light day, a didn't-sleep-last-night day, and all of it counts.

When the gym feels like a safe place to be, walking through the door gets a whole lot easier, and that's where everything else starts.

Check out the sign hanging behind her. . That smile isn't really about the barbell, it's about everything the barbell makes possible outside these walls - the stairs, the hikes, throwing your own suitcase into the overhead bin without asking anybody for help.

Fitness is the vehicle, not the destination. Come find out what that feels like.

OCTOBER MEMBER OF THE MONTH: LAUREN CONOSCENTI!🎉

Lauren wears a lot of hats between being a wife, mom, and working. We know life gets busy, and we love that Lauren continues to carve out time for herself, her health, and her fitness along the way.

She is such a pleasure to have in class, and we truly appreciate the positive presence she brings to our community. She comes in ready to learn, listens to her coaches, and takes on each workout with a great attitude. Members like Lauren are a big part of what makes CFA feel like more than just a gym. It’s about showing up for yourself while being surrounded by people who support and encourage you along the way.

We’re lucky to have Lauren a part of the CFA Fam! We appreciate you more than you know. Help us congratulate her on being our Member of the Month! 🖤❤️

What do you do for work?
I am the Assistant Head of School for Analytic Support and Assessment at Phillips Academy. I collect and analyze data to support the school’s strategic decision-making.

Where did you grow up?
Smithtown, NY, which is about an hour east of NYC on Long Island.

Favorite food?
Can’t beat a bowl of fresh pasta with homemade Bolognese!

Least favorite food?
Oysters

Favorite CrossFit movement?
Box jumps, deadlifts

Least favorite CrossFit movement?
Echo bike, Turkish get-ups

Something people don’t know about you?
I do the NY Times crossword puzzle every single night before I go to sleep. As I write this, I have a 955-day streak.

Do you have any hidden talents/party tricks?
No, but my dog Ruthie can give you a high five or do a cute little ballerina spin on her hind legs…

If someone asked you about CrossFit looking to possibly join, what would you tell them?
The hardest CrossFit movement is walking through the gym doors for the first time. Once you do that, you’ll find a community of people from all ages and stages of life who will encourage and inspire you every day. You’ll work with coaches who meet you where you’re at so that your workout is truly yours. And you’ll discover an inner strength you never knew you had.

That fist bump happened before she could even get herself up off the floor. Nobody programmed it and nobody had to be taught it, it's just what happens when the people around you actually care how your workout went.

The workout gets you in the door, but the people are why you keep coming back.

Before a kid ever climbs a rope, they have to get comfortable just holding one, figuring out how it moves, how it swings, and how much it can hold them. That's what this is, a kid getting to know a new piece of equipment on her own terms, with nobody rushing her and a whole crew cheering from the back.

Kids build their relationship with movement in moments like this one. When the first experience is curiosity instead of pressure, they keep coming back for the next one.

Nobody in this picture is racing the person next to them. They're racing the version of themselves that wanted to stay home today, and every stroke is a small vote for showing up anyway.

Any % is better than 0%, and when enough of those days stack up over the long haul, it stops being a workout and just becomes who you are.

If you asked these kids what they love about this class, most of them wouldn't say the workouts. They'd say their friends.

Coach Haylee gets right down on the ground with them for photos like this, because that relationship is the whole reason a kid keeps showing up week after week. What you don't see in this picture is the same group of girls cheering for each other mid-workout, checking in when someone falls, celebrating a rope climb like it's a gold medal.

That's what CrossFit Ares Kids is actually building. Not just stronger, faster kids. Kids who love showing up, and who love the people they get to show up with.

Ask a kid to run agility drills and you'll get a groan. Ask them to play tag through a maze of cones and you'll get a stampede.

That's the trick behind almost everything we do at CrossFit Ares Kids. The coordination, the speed, the quick feet, it's all getting built in there, they just have no idea, because it looks and feels like a game and not a drill.

By the time these kids are old enough to actually train, this stuff is just how their bodies move. Nobody has to teach it to them later, because they were never taught to think of it as work in the first place.

You can't talk a nervous kid into climbing a rope. You can show her a friend doing it first.

That's what's actually happening on the sidelines of this photo. The girls watching aren't just waiting their turn, they're building up the nerve to try it themselves. One kid goes, and suddenly the rope isn't the scary thing in the room anymore, it's just the next thing to try.

That's the real value of a room full of other kids. Courage is contagious here, and it spreads faster than any pep talk we could give.
