Some of our students attended a Health and Human Service week event at McNeil Hall! Here they were free to attend lectures and engage in discussion about health and wellness while also building upon professional skills learned in class.

Our students in our Career and College Readiness course are hard at work learning valuable interview skills, professional English language skills, and getting involved in our community through volunteer opportunities.

As part of our new College and Career Readiness course, our students participated in the UNCW Career Fair and utilized it as an important opportunity to apply the skills they've been learning in class. During the course, students strengthen their professional English communication skills while learning college-readiness strategies, interviewing techniques, and developing essential application materials such as CVs and resumes. Through these activities, students build the confidence and practical tools needed to pursue further education and transition successfully into professional settings.

We’re proud to celebrate Emre and Ryan from our Advanced English class! ✨

They chose to enter the university library’s FlashLit Writing Competition, and both of their works were selected for publication in the official anthology — a fantastic achievement!

FlashLit challenges students to submit original short-form writing that follows strict contest guidelines, giving them real-world experience writing for an authentic audience.

At the ELC, we’re committed to creating meaningful opportunities beyond the classroom — and we love seeing our students share their voices with the wider community.

Congratulations, Ryan and Emre!

The ELC needs UNCW students to volunteer as conversation partners for our English learners.

Students enrolled in the English Language Center want to make American friends, practice their English skills, and participate in an American experience.

As a volunteer, you will help international students adjust to life in the U.S., learn about American culture, and practice their informal English skills, Partners are matched based on preferences and interests. Matches are typically made at the beginning of Fall and Spring semesters, but applications are accepted and encouraged on an ongoing basis.

Sign-up using the QR code or reach out to us at [email protected]. We would love to hear from you and answer any questions!
