Come learn the beautiful art of botanical bundle dyeing at Crafted's Three Year Anniversary Adult Craft Camp Sunday, Sept 15th from 10-12:30pm with Rachael K and Rachael C in the Cargo District Courtyard (outside of Crafted Outpost)!

Wondering how to recycle those old floral arrangements? Learn how to extract color from plant matter, locally forged flowers, cochineal bugs, and more. You’d be amazed at the colors attained by using plants! If you have ever been curious about natural dyes, then bundle dyeing is a great introduction. Bundle dyeing is easy, sustainable, non-toxic and fun!

You will be introduced to the beautiful alchemy of botanical bundling and will leave with your own botanically dyed organic cotton tea towel and silk scarf. Fabric, natural dyes and fresh flowers will all be provided. No previous dyeing experience necessary!

Botanical dying workshop will cover:

- Introduction to natural dye plants and mordants

- Introduction to protein-based and cellulose-based fibers

- Overview of natural dyestuffs including onion skins, cochineal, turmeric, avocado skins, fresh and dried flowers, black tea, eucalyptus, cochineal bugs and more.

- How to bundle dye on silk and cotton, including how to prepare the fabric, place the dyestuffs, bundle the fabric, and steam the fabric on a stovetop.

- Learn the art of flower and leaf hammering, an ancient Japanese technique called Tataki Zome 

- Each student will leave with a cotton tea towel and long silk scarf, and the know-how to design and create more pieces on their own. Extra white items that have prepped to dye will be available to dye at the workshop for an additional cost.
