📷 The Academy of the Dance. Open Level Ballet Intensive students in Conditioning with Mrs. Hostler.

Ballet Conditioning is a low-impact, full-body workout that adapts classical ballet training into fitness exercises designed to build strength, flexibility, and core stability without requiring any dance experience. It is highly beneficial at any age because it targets the deep stabilizing muscles that protect joints, improves posture, and enhances functional mobility.

By emphasizing controlled, fluid movements, younger participants can build a injury-resistant foundation, while older adults can maintain bone density, sharpen balance, and protect their cognitive health through coordinated movement patterns.

Enroll in the weekly Conditioning class with Mrs Hostler in the 2026 / 2027 Academic Year, and maximize exercise for your whole self.

Video: Beaucejour Family. Academy of the Dance Scholarship recipients.

Academy of the Dance founders James Jamieson and Madame Helene Antonova; two world class professional artists with extensive historic careers, were pioneers of industry aligned, career preparatory multicultural dance education in the state of Delaware.

Providing elite-level training in an intentionally inclusive environment, as well as bringing their work to local and regional schools, and community organizations, to serve students who may not otherwise have the resources or ability to see performances or study the art.

The Helene Antonova Scholarship, and ultimately The Wilmington Ballet Scholarship was established to assist students and families with tuition, shoes, and apparel expenses.

Though support for arts programs and organizations that serve diverse communities has greatly decreased in recent years, the altruistic spirit of our founders endures.

The organization provides arts education, performances, and events that transcend traditional offerings with like minded community partners and established working professional artists with an active intention to affect change, and enrich lives within and beyond its state borders.
