🍪🐻 A Sweet Adventure in Room 8! 🐻🍪

Our Room 8 Golden Bears have been working hard to build a strong classroom community, and this week, they went on a gingerbread adventure! ❤️

After reading several versions of The Gingerbread Man, including The Gingerbread Man Loose in the School, our students discovered that their very own classroom Gingerbread Man had mysteriously gone missing! 😮

The Golden Bears sprang into action by creating missing posters and hanging them throughout the school. Then, they searched high and low to find their runaway friend! Along the way, they connected with members of our wonderful School Family while practicing how to introduce themselves, greet others, and ask questions. 🏫💛

Thankfully, this story had a sweet ending! 🍯 Our Gingerbread Man was found and safely returned to Room 8! 🎉

What a fun way to build friendships, strengthen communication skills, and celebrate the power of community. Way to go, Golden Bears! 🐻✨

Heads up! Early voting begins Thursday, October 15th.

Voters will consider a proposed $320.5 million bond referendum for New Hanover County Schools.

If approved, the bond would fund projects that address our greatest facility needs across the district, technology & systems upgrades, and enhanced safety.

What will you see on the ballot?

On November 3, 2026, voters will consider a proposed $320.5 million bond referendum for New Hanover County Schools.

Here’s what to know before you vote!

The projects included in the proposed bond for New Hanover County Schools were determined after every NHCS facility was inspected by a third party to assess facility needs, such as roofs, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, fire protection, and other areas.

The findings from the third-party facility assessments were considered alongside the independent discussions and priorities identified through district wide staff meetings, community town halls and the Capital Finance & Bond Committee. Together, these sources helped inform which needs and projects were prioritized for inclusion in the proposed bond.

We would be a hot mess without Mr. AJ and Ms. Linda! 🧹🧼💙

They do so much behind the scenes to help keep our school safe, clean, and running smoothly. But their role at Howe goes far beyond that! They join us out on the playground, bring us our meals, visit our classrooms, and are always there to lend a helping hand.

We are so thankful for Mr. AJ and Ms. Linda and all the many roles they play in making Howe a wonderful place for our little Bears! 🐻💙

🐻💙 Wow! Can you believe we’re already ONE MONTH into the school year?! 🎉📚

Our Howe Bears have already experienced SO much in such a short time! 🥰 They’ve enjoyed music class 🎶, taken rides on the school bus 🚌, made new friends 🤗, and had so much fun learning, growing, and playing together! ❤️

We are so proud of all the memories they’ve made during their first month and can’t wait to see what the rest of the school year brings! 🐻✨

Good morning, Howe families!

Just a few reminders as we wrap up the month:
Morning Arrival Now that most of our students have transportation in place, the car line will end promptly at 7:20 a.m. This allows our teachers to return to their classrooms and maintain appropriate student-to-staff ratios.

Parent Workshop: The Power of Play in Pre-K We invite you to join us on October 8 for a special parent workshop, The Power of Play in Pre-K. We will offer two sessions:
7:30 a.m.
2:30 p.m.

Please note that this is a parent-only event, and children should not attend.

Attendance Update Tomorrow is the last day of September, and we want to thank our families for doing such a wonderful job getting students to school on time each day! While we still average about nine tardies per day, our overall attendance rate is approximately 92%.

✅ Attendance Tracker Reminder Please return September attendance trackers to your child's teacher tomorrow. Students who missed one day or less during the month will be entered into a special drawing. The drawing will take place on Thursday, October 1.

New attendance trackers for the month of October will be sent home on Thursday as well.

Howe Pre-K is excited to invite our Howe Bear parents to a special presentation, “The Power of Play,” featuring Ms. Dixie Smith! 💙

During this presentation, Ms. Dixie will share why play is such an important part of early childhood development and the meaningful role play has in helping our little bears learn, grow, explore, problem-solve, build relationships, and develop important life skills. 🧸🧩📚✨
