Today we remember and honor a truly beloved member of the St. Elizabeth family, James “Jim” F. Burrows, Jr.

Coach Burrows dedicated so much of his life to guiding, mentoring, and encouraging young people both on and off the court and field. A proud Wilmington native and Conrad High graduate, Jim spent 40 years working for the CSX Railroad, but one of his greatest passions was coaching. Through the years, he shared his love of basketball and baseball with countless students and athletes at St. Elizabeth High School, Salesianum School, Conrad School of the Sciences, Newark Charter Middle School, and many local little leagues.

To generations of Vikings, Coach Burrows was more than just a coach — he was a role model, mentor, and steady presence who believed in his players and pushed them to be their very best. His kindness, dedication, and love for the game left a lasting impact on so many lives.

We are deeply saddened by his unexpected passing and extend our heartfelt prayers and condolences to the Burrows family, his friends, former players, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

May we always remember the lessons he taught, the lives he touched, and the legacy he leaves behind.

Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him.

Congratulations to the Seniors, 8th Graders, and Kindergartners who took part in our Grad Walk celebration on May 14th. This meaningful event has been a time-honored tradition at St. Elizabeth for over 10 years, and it continues to beautifully showcase what makes our school so special.

During the ceremony, our Seniors received St. Benedict bracelets, presented either by Mrs. Reyburn or their 8th grade partners. The Seniors then pinned St. Benedict pins onto their 8th grade partners, who in turn pinned the Kindergartners: symbolizing faith, leadership, and the passing of tradition from one stage of learning to the next.

It was a powerful and touching reminder of how uniquely connected we are as a school community, spanning from early childhood through graduation. We are grateful for these time-honored traditions and for the ways they reflect our St. Benedict values, unity, and faith.

What a beautiful celebration of growth, faith, and community! We wish our Seniors and 8th graders all the best in their next chapters in their lives! Always remember : once a Viking, always a Viking!

Congratulations to the St. Elizabeth’s Girls Basketball team for their amazing victory last month as they won the 2026 Championship game against Sanford!

While down in the final quarter, they gave it everything they had and showed immense determination and athleticism that pushed them over the final line to success. This game serves as a reminder that perseverance is a valuable trait that brings the best out in all of us.

Thank you to Coach Tye Taylor for guiding these amazing scholar athletes and for joining us in Legislative Hall to be recognized today!
