Meet the Inductees:
Mark Harris, 1977, Basketball.
Mark was inducted into the Delaware Basketball Hall of Fame in 2019. As a senior in 1977, he was 1st team All-conference, 1st Team All-State, ranked 4th in the state in scoring, and named to the Philadelphia Inquirer All-region team.
Mark went on to play basketball at Harvard. He played on the Freshman team his first year; he scored 16.2 ppg, shot 58% from the field and 72.6% from the free throw line, and had 6.4 rebounds per game. He started varsity as a sophomore on a team with an 8-21 record, scoring 10.4 ppg, shooting 51.2% from the field and 72.6% from the free throw line, and had 4.7 rebounds per game. In his junior year the team finished with an 11-15 record. Mark was named a co-captain as a senior on a team that finished with a 16-10 record.

Meet the inductees:
Ann Beaudoin Rodgers, class of 1977, tennis.
Ann challenged for the state championship at first singles all 3 of her years at BHS, winning in 1976 and 1977, placing as runner up in 1975.

After graduation, Ann worked as a junior tennis instructor at DuPont Country Club. In 1978, she earned a number 1 ranking for Girls’ 18 Singkwz by the Delaware Tennis Association.

Ann transferred from UNC to Ohio State. At Ohio State, she had a 26-9 record at #4 Singles. The following year, Ann moved up to #1 Singles and #1 Doubles position on the team.

Meet the inductees:
Sally Andersen Willig, class of 1979.
Sally was an outstanding field hockey player, selected as first team All-State in 1977, but truly shone on the track. From 1977-1979, she placed in the top 3 in the 100 meter hurdles at the state track meet, while also placing 2nd twice in the 400 meters.
After BHS, Sally attended Princeton University. As a Princeton Tiger, she won 6 Heptagonal titles on the track, including sweeping the 100 and 400 meter hurdles in 1980 and 1981. In 1983, Sally finished 9th at the NCAA championships in the 400 meter hurdles, setting a still standing Princeton record of 58.19. In 1984, Sally competed in the Olympic track trials, running 58.42 in the 400 hurdles. She was awarded the Von Kienbush Award as the top senior sportswoman at Princeton.

Meet the Inductees:
Bob Thompson, Coach. Coached the boys soccer team to 10 Blue Hen conference titles, and State titles in 1977, 1979, and 1980. Coach Thompson was named Soccer Coach of the Year in 1977.

Meet the Inductees:
Dave Curtis, Coach.
Coached the BHS boys harriers to State Championship titles in 1960 (first state title in school history), 1963, 1964, 1966, and 1968. He also coached the Girls Track and Field team to a state title in 1975. Coach Curtis was named the N5CTA Cross Country Coach of the Decade for the 1960s.

Meet the Inductees:
Susan Delaney-Scheetz, class of 1965. Susan played field hockey, basketball, and softball at BHS during a time when women didn’t have the same opportunities as they do today. At West Chester University, Susan played field hockey, basketball, softball, and lacrosse, and played on the first National Invitational Basketball Championship team in 1969.

Susan went on to a stellar coaching career after college. She coached Penncrest High School to 3 Central League Lacrosse Championships and 1 District/State Title. She coached the women’s Lacrosse team at Penn State from 1986-1989. Her teams played in the National championship game all 4 years she coached, winning in 1987 and 1989, she was also named National Coach of the Year those years. Susan spent 8 years as the coach of the U.S. lacrosse team team. In 2024, she was awarded the Collegiate Lacrosse Coaches Association Lifetime Achievement Award, and she has been inducted into 8 Hall of Fames including tge U.S. Lacrosse National Hall of Fame (2000) and the Delaware Sports Museum Hall of Fame (2005).

Meet the Inductees:
Jan Anthony Perkins, class of 1976. In 1973, Jan became the first woman to reach the status of elite gymnast, a category defined by technical skill and artistry in vault, uneven bars, balance beam, and floor exercise that qualifies an athlete to compete on the national and international stages. In 1974, she placed first in vault at the USGF National Elite Qualifier and second place in the vault at Senior Nationals. As a BHS junior in 1975, she finished 6th nationally at the AAU Senior Gymnastics Championships after winning the overall title at the USGF regional elite meet and earning a position on the national team. She was a finalist at the Pan American trials and a semi-finalist at the 1976 Olympic Trials. Jan continued her gymnastics career at Penn State and was recognized for her efforts nine years after her graduation by having the Jan Anthony Iron Horse award given to the athlete who displays season-long consistent performances named after her.

Meet the Inductees:
Ed McCreary, class of 1976. Ed had speed to burn and demonstrated it by winning a “gimmick race” of 100 yards against a standard bred horse and a Model T Ford at Brandywine Raceway. It was his efforts against other humans that truly set him apart. Ed holds personal bests of 10.33 for 100 meters and 21.00 for the 200 meters. He qualified and ran the 100 at the NCAA championships, and also qualified for the Olympic Trials in 1980. Ed was inducted into the Delaware Track & Field Hall of Fame in 1997.

This year’s honorees will be honored at the football game against Delaware Military Academy on Friday, September 26. The next morning, September 27, we will be having an induction brunch at 10:30 in the school lobby and cafeteria.
