Today, the Wind Ensemble Saxophone Quartet was recognized by the Clinton County Veterans Service Commission (CCVSC) for their participation in the Memorial Day Ceremony at the Clinton County Veterans Memorial.

Ron King, Outreach & Communications Coordinator for the CCVSC, expressed his appreciation to the members of the WHS Wind Ensemble and presented the saxophone quartet with a plaque.

🎶 March is Music In Our Schools Month — and it matters here in Ohio.

Music education isn’t just an enrichment—it’s essential.

Research shows that students involved in music:

Score higher in reading, math, and standardized tests
Develop stronger memory, attention, and critical thinking skills
Build confidence, resilience, and a sense of belonging
Gain real-world skills like creativity, collaboration, and communication that employers demand
In fact, the College Board reports that students in music score 63 points higher in verbal and 44 points higher in math on the SAT.

Yet even here in Ohio, school music programs are facing real funding pressures, putting these opportunities at risk for too many students.

This is about more than programs—it’s about equity, opportunity, and ensuring every child has access to a well-rounded education, as recognized under federal law.

🎵 Take Action, Ohio:
Make your voice heard. Reach out to your local school leaders and elected officials. Let them know that music education is essential—not optional—and every student deserves access to a high-quality program taught by licensed music educators.

Because when we support music in our schools, we support the success of every student.

Brendon Sapp, Assistant Marching Band Director and teacher at WMS was selected to perform in the Pasadena Rose Parade® on January 1, 2026.

The Saluting America’s Band Directors parade entry will again convey its theme, “America’s Band Directors: We teach music. We teach life.” to recognize the extraordinary dedication and accomplishments of band directors and music educators everywhere. Throughout their careers, the music educators in this band have collectively mentored and taught hundreds of thousands of students. These professionals not only teach and direct music, they teach about life itself.

The band will be directed by nationally known music educator and innovative band director Jon Waters, who will also lead rehearsals and other performances of the band when in Pasadena. The sponsoring organization behind the Saluting America’s Band Directors project is the Michael D. Sewell Memorial Foundation, based in Pickerington, Ohio. The foundation was created to recognize and carry on the work of the late Mike Sewell, who dedicated his life to the school and community music programs in Pickerington and the Central Ohio area for almost 40 years.

The Band is # 67 in the parade. Family and friends at home can watch the 2026 Rose Parade Live on January 1, 2026 beginning at 11:00 EST on NBC, ABC, Great American Family, Univision, RFD TV. Check local listings for more information. In Los Angeles, the parade can also be watched on KTLA-5.
