Today we celebrate Juneteenth—a day to reflect on our history, celebrate progress and embrace the joy that comes from freedom and unity.

WMS honors the generations who persevered through unimaginable challenges and recognizes the achievements, culture and contributions of Black Americans that continue to shape our nation every day.

We believe that strong communities are built on respect, belonging and the collaborative efforts that ensure everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

We know that school ended over a week ago, but some moments are worth revisiting!

Before the WMS received their diplomas, members of the community shared their good luck wishes and encouragement with the grads. Here’s a look back at some of those heartfelt messages from the people who know them best (and some younger students who admired them from afar)!

WMS is a strong community where every individual matters.

Together, we foster an environment where everyone feels safe, seen and welcomed. This month, and every month, let’s strive to ensure every one of us feels loved and respected for who we are.

Happy !

On Friday, we celebrated the members of the WMS Class of 2026 as they reached an important milestone in their educational journey. The graduation ceremony brought together students, families, staff and friends for a morning of reflection, appreciation and joy.

The program included inspiring remarks from Head of School Sarah Williams, commencement speaker Alyssa Ross, Middle School teacher Emma Mulrine, two seventh-grade students and our graduates themselves. Kindergarten through seventh-grade students also joined together to perform the WMS school song, highlighting the connections that make our community so special.

Each member of the Class of 2026 has left a unique mark on WMS. From students who spent nearly their entire childhood here to those who joined us more recently, this class has enriched our school in countless ways. We are grateful for the time they spent with us and excited to see what the future holds for each of them.

Be sure to watch for Wednesday’s special graduation newsletter, where we’ll share more photos and highlights from the celebration!

Our final 2026 features Lana!

Although Lana joined the WMS community this fall, she quickly became part of campus life. As she reflects on her time here, Lana shared that she’ll especially miss the teachers and the opportunity to spend time learning outdoors.

Next year, Lana will attend Charter School of Wilmington, where she’s looking forward to reconnecting with friends from her previous school while taking on new challenges.

We’re proud of you, Lana, and excited to celebrate you and the rest of the class of 2026 tomorrow!

Today’s features Zoe!

Zoe first joined the WMS community as a toddler, attending through kindergarten before returning this year for eighth grade. It has been wonderful to welcome her back to campus and watch her share her creativity with the WMS community. One highlight of the year was seeing her work with younger students during STEAM Days and other school events — connecting with children who were the same age she was when she first began her WMS journey.

As she prepares for the transition to high school, Zoe shared that she’ll especially miss her teachers at WMS. We know her creativity and unique perspective will continue to grow as she begins this next chapter.

We’re proud of you, Zoe!
