A goal of building an off-grid home brought Jessica Wilson to CFCC in 2012. That decision led to a career in sustainable construction and her current role as Director of Education and Technical Services for Carolinas Ready Mixed Concrete Association. She was also recently named one of the Wilmington Chamber of Commerce ’s 2026 40 Under 40 Honorees!

We caught up with Jessica to talk about her time at CFCC, her career, and the life she’s built along the way.

Love working with dogs? Take the first step toward becoming a trainer!

CFCC’s Fundamentals of Assistance Dog Training combines foundational knowledge with practical experience to prepare students for entry-level work in assistance dog training or private pet dog training. Learn positive reinforcement techniques, behavior modification, and how to build strong partnerships between dogs and their handlers.

The course begins Oct. 21. Register today!

Join Cape Fear Community College’s Student Veterans Organization for a free, family-friendly Trunk-or-Treat on Thursday, October 29, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at CFCC’s Downtown Campus.

Bring the family for an evening of Halloween fun featuring creatively decorated trunks, candy, games, and more. Costumes are encouraged, and all ages are welcome!

CFCC's Criminal Justice Club and UNCW's Sociology & Criminology Club will co-host “Pathways & Second Chances: A Community Reentry Symposium” on Tuesday, October 27. The daylong symposium will take place from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM in Windell Daniels Hall, Room U508, located inside Union Station.

Attendees will experience panel discussions, gain access to vital community resources, and engage in conversations centered on rehabilitation, successful reentry, and building sustainable pathways to second chances.

The event is free and open to the public.

Austin Frost is both a student and instructor at CFCC.

During the day, he teaches automotive service to Pender High School students through CFCC’s Career and College Promise program. In the evenings, he becomes a student himself, attending CFCC classes Monday through Friday.

Being on both sides of the classroom gives Frost a perspective that shapes the way he teaches.

“My favorite thing about this so far is taking the skills that I’ve gained and learning how to decipher them in a way that will help people understand,” he said.

Exciting news! CFCC is now a FANUC certified robotics training institution!

Through certified instructor credentials in FANUC’s Certified Education Robot Training (CERT), CFCC is now the only institution within a 60-mile radius offering FANUC training that is certified through the National Occupational Competency Testing Institute.
