It was an exciting morning at school today!

This morning our prekindergarten class had a special treat when they arrived this morning they realized 2 of our chrysalises changed into butterflies over night. They even got to watch a third butterfly emerge. What a special way to learn about life cycles! 🐛🦋

This was really amazing to witness! At first, I was horrified to discover menacing-looking orange and black spiked caterpillars on my beloved passionflower vine, but before long (and with only minimal damage) they formed chrysalis. This morning (on the full moon) I was exquisitely lucky enough to see the last one emerge. I thought it might be a long process, but it felt like one minute there was a non-descript brownish pod, and the next a stunning winged creature had materialized. Metamorphosis and metaphor!

The other day, Scheri and I caught up with the radiant Sonja as we discussed navigating daily life and running a household as we balance outside-of-the-home responsibilities. We could have talked for hours, as there are lots of levels to explore! Something helpful that I have been learning in my teacher training is the technique of mentally sorting stressors into the following buckets: things I control, things I can influence, and things I may care about, but have no control over. If you think about those as concentric circles, the smallest, innermost one is the stuff I can control, the middle one is what can be influenced, and the outermost ring is just about everything else. Using those categories enables me to manage my energy and attention more consciously, as well as stay present in the moment. As the world around us shifts and changes, I am curious to see if I can make it an instinctive habit!

A fleeting, near-perfect summer weekend...lots of swimming (even me!), a late night trip to the beach to watch the full moon rise (ok, it was only 9pm), fun movies (The Meg), family sleepovers and just trying to make all the memories we can before Baby Bird #1 leaves the nest. When the days are this seamless, I'm reminded to slow down and let even the everyday moments sink into my bones.
