Wilmington City Schools board thinks an "earned" income tax could get more seniors to vote yes by not taxing THEIR retirement—which would be great ✅👍 but let’s not let go of OUR responsibility as 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 parents, 👩‍🏫 teachers, and 🏡 residents for OUR children, OUR jobs, and OUR community 🧡🖤

Hey friendos! At our last meeting we discussed the idea of creating a cool 😎 yard sign (like those dang Falcons) to help our community take pride in our schools…

Here are two QUICK mock-ups, with ROUGH fonts, design, etc. Please share your honest feedback or ideas, and we will pretend not cry our eyes out in real life. 🙃

P.S. the tagline “we earn our pride” is to help counteract the entitled connotation of the word, and also inspire/empower our community to take responsibility/action to help make our schools better 💪🧡💯

Thank you to everyone who participated in our community survey for Wilmington City Schools! We have shared the feedback of our survey with our district, and are now sharing it with our community in hopes that we would all join together to burden the responsibility of restoring pride in our district and reflecting community values in our schools. 👩‍🏫🍎🏡

Pride comes from either work or entitlement (the work of others). Hurricane pride comes from showing up over the summer to love our community 😎❤️👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 We had a lot of good conversations today with families that didn’t know about the upcoming free school supply event on August 13!

One of the trends from our community survey over the summer was that some people feel like “communication” from Wilmington City Schools could be better.

In our last meeting on July 26, some people even lamented how handouts aren’t making it home and emails aren’t being opened.

So, we decided to use the upcoming Clinton County School Supplies handout as an opportunity to go door-to-door and talk with our community about what is going on in our schools—and share about attending or donating to the event of course.

Thank you to all the community members who made the time to go above and beyond to show support for our students!

WILMINGTON — At Monday’s meeting, the Wilmington City Schools Board of Education approved a resolution for a 1% earned income tax levy to be placed on the November election ballot in an effort to raise $5 million annually for school district purposes.
