Attention 4th and 5th grade students and families,

Sign ups are available at Mr. Gallo's door for Auditions for All County Chorus 2027! All County Chorus is an annual held at the Minnie Evans Performing Arts Center, where over 150 Elementary Singers gather for a large all district concert. This concert will occur Friday Feb 19 at the Minnie Evans Performing Arts Center at Ashley High School.

This year, due to Porters Neck enrollment, 11 singers from our school will have the chance to participate!

Audition materials are available this week from Mr. Gallo. Practices will occur most Tuesdays and Thursdays after school beginning in November from 3-4:15pm.

To receive audition music, have your student reach out about audition music during music class this week, or find Mr. Gallo on his way to his classrooms. There will also be an envelope full of music near his door in the hallway towards the library. Happy Auditioning!

Heads up! Early voting begins Thursday, October 15th.

Voters will consider a proposed $320.5 million bond referendum for New Hanover County Schools.

If approved, the bond would fund projects that address our greatest facility needs across the district, technology & systems upgrades, and enhanced safety.

🌦️ Weather in the Classroom! 🌪️

Our fifth graders had a special visit this week from local meteorologist Gannon Medwick! As part of their science unit on weather and climate, students learned about what it’s like to work as a meteorologist and what Gannon does in his day-to-day job.

He shared information about different weather instruments and how they help him gather data and make forecasts. Students wrapped up the visit with a question-and-answer session, getting the chance to ask questions and learn even more about the world of meteorology!

A big thank-you to Gannon for taking the time to share his knowledge and bring our fifth-grade science standards to life! 🌤️🌡️🌧️

It’s National Principals Month, and we have so much to celebrate!
We are incredibly fortunate to have a principal who truly goes above and beyond for his staff and students every single day. He is supportive, encouraging, and always stands behind his teachers. No matter what challenges come our way, he is there with a positive attitude, a kind word, and a smile on his face.
One of the things that makes him so special is the way he connects with our students. His daily classroom visits are a highlight of the day, and the kids are always excited to see him walk through the door. He takes the time to build relationships, celebrate successes, and make everyone feel valued.
Thank you for your leadership, your encouragement, and the genuine care you show our school community. We are so lucky to have you leading the way and making our school such a wonderful place to learn and grow.

Today we recognized our “Teaching in the Gaps” Teachers of the Month! This recognition celebrates the teaching and learning that happens in nontraditional ways and in those unexpected moments throughout the school day.

This month’s honorees were recognized for creative ways they are maximizing learning time, including entry tickets in math and vocabulary as students arrive in the morning, quick math facts and trick words while students are waiting in line, and additional enrichment and intervention opportunities for students waiting for the late bus.

We appreciate this month’s honorees for going above and beyond, and we are grateful to our entire staff for making learning fun and finding creative, nontraditional ways to help our students learn and grow.

Be on the lookout for “gaps” at home, too! A few minutes in the car, while waiting at a sibling’s sporting event, or during downtime at home can become a great opportunity to practice, ask questions, read, or learn something new. Every little bit adds up!

What will you see on the ballot?

On November 3, 2026, voters will consider a proposed $320.5 million bond referendum for New Hanover County Schools.

Here’s what to know before you vote!

The projects included in the proposed bond for New Hanover County Schools were determined after every NHCS facility was inspected by a third party to assess facility needs, such as roofs, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, fire protection, and other areas.

The findings from the third-party facility assessments were considered alongside the independent discussions and priorities identified through district wide staff meetings, community town halls and the Capital Finance & Bond Committee. Together, these sources helped inform which needs and projects were prioritized for inclusion in the proposed bond.
