đHere are our top 6ïžâŁ essential postpartum supplies to have on hand:
đŠPerineal Care Items: Stock up on perineal spray, soothing ice pack pads & witch hazel pads to provide comfort and relief after childbirth.
đ©žMaxi Pads: Opt for heavy-flow maxi pads designed for postpartum use. They provide great coverage and absorbency during the first initial weeks.
đ©ČComfortable Underwear: Invest in high-waisted, soft, & stretchy underwear that accommodates postpartum pads and doesnât irritate your healing body. A frequently used brand from our clients is Always Discrete & thereâs even an Always Discrete Postpartum underwear you can find at your local Target, Walmart, CVS or Walgreens.
đ„„Nipple Cream: If youâre breastfeeding, a good-quality ni**le cream can provide relief from soreness
and help prevent chapping. A top recommended option is just straight up organic virgin coconut oil.
đ§ŽHemorrhoid Cream & Stool Softeners: These can be a lifesaver if youâre dealing with post-birth constipation. Consult your healthcare provider before using any medications.
đPrenatal Vitamins: Continue taking your prenatal vitamins, as they support your bodyâs recovery and
provide essential nutrients for breastfeeding if applicable.
Postpartum prep + recovery is so much more than what you could ever find in a list. Reach out today to get connected with one of our doulas to walk with you through this journey to help you find whatâs right for you! đ€

If the nesting instinct is hitting you hard, here are a few household projects to consider adding to your to-do list to help ease the transition.đ¶đœ
đïžCreate Your Sanctuary
While decking out the babyâs room might be more exciting, remember that in those initial weeks, youâll likely be spending a lot more time in your bedroom. With all the well-deserved resting, your bed will become a haven. Transform your bedroom into a serene and soothing space where you can unwind and catch some much needed sleep.
đ§·Strategic Diaper Stations
Newborns are quite productive when it comes to diaper changesđ. Around 12 times a day usually. To make life easier for your future self, set up multiple diaper-changing stations across your home. Consider having one in your bedroom, living room, and the babyâs nursery. Fill these stations with essentials like diapers, wipes, extra onesies, receiving blankets, and a laundry and garbage bag. Having these necessities within easy reach can be a lifesaver, especially if youâve had a c-section and moving around is a bit challenging.
đ§șAppliance Prep
Get ready to put your major appliances to the test because your washer, dryer, dishwasher, and hot water heater are in for some serious action. Itâs a good idea to give them a little check up before the baby arrives. Clean out your dryer ducts, change filters, & ensure everything is in good working order. Trust us, you wonât want to find yourself without a functional washer or dryer with a newborn in the mix. Itâs all about being prepared!

order for âïž coming right up!âïžBe careful booking postpartum doula support because your mornings might just look a little brighterâïžâïžđŒđ
Alright. We know you wanna know. To be honest, even with all the experience we have as doulas, we can be nosey and sometimes we wanna know too. However, the reality is it doesnât matter if you know because it really doesnât matter, ya know?đ
A cervical check only tells you what the status of your cervix at that very point in time and did you know it can differ from person to person depending on whoâs checking you? It canât predict when labor will start, what will happen next or how much longer you have to go. Sometimes a cervical check can feel defeating & sometimes it can be encouraging. It truly depends on each individual situation!
Thereâs so much more happening (or that needs to happen in starting labor & labor itself) than just dilation alone. If youâre at the end of your pregnancy wanting a cervical check, be sure to ask for your bishop score which will give you more information you can discuss with your provider!đ€

One of the most empowering decisions youâll make is where to give birth. Whether itâs the coziness of your home, the nurturing environment of a birth center, or the advanced medical care of a hospital, your choice should reflect your comfort, needs, and desires.đĄđ„
Home births offer familiarity, surrounded by your own space and energy. Birth centers provide a gentle atmosphere with skilled support. Hospitals offer medical resources for high-risk situations.
Your birthing place is as unique as you are! đâ
Itâs important to explore your options, gather information, and have open conversations with your care team. Consider factors like your health, birth philosophy, and support network.
Your doula team is here to help facilitate an intimate & peaceful space for you regardless of where you give birth! Trust your instincts and know that no matter where you choose, your birthing experience is a journey that youâre creating with love.đ€±

Maybe itâs felt like an uphill battle to get to this momentđ§ââïž or maybe it unfolded like a roller coaster faster than you ever expectedđąâŠ the moment youâre body changed from transition into pushing out your babyâŠ& the moment you realized this is really happening- youâre meeting your baby!đ«
đȘđœThe pushing phase of birth can last between and up to 1-3 hrs. The cervix is fully dilated + effaced (although being a 10 doesnât necessarily mean itâs time to push and even if youâre not at 10 yet you can still feel those âpushy urgesâ & the cervix can dilate in seconds!), and the uterus begins pushing the baby down into the pelvis. You may feel the âurge to pushâ & work with contractions to push baby out. Contractions may space out a little and you may even drift off and rest a few minutes in-between contractions. You may even experience a surge of adrenaline that will help you have enough energy to birth your baby. After so much time having to let the contractions wash over you, you may be surprised it actually might feel good to be able to finally do something!
đŁOnce your baby actually begins crowing (the head is visible and remains visible in between contractions), the rest of their body will often follow in just a few pushes. Babyâs head may move forward with a push and then actually move back- this is a good thing and doesnât mean you are going backwards. Baby is making their way & may need to change position. The actual birth is the fastest part of the entire process and typically lasts around 1-10 minutes.
During pushing we can help you find a position that YOU feel most comfortable & confident in, educate in the moment, manning your playlist, holding your leg (or your hand or your head & wiping your brow), or giving your partner that look that youâre doing incredible! Whether you need some coaching, the whole team cheering you on or youâd rather have more silence so you can go inward, your doula is watching you, mirroring you & helping the room follow your lead! đ€
Thereâs soo much more info & nuances when it comes to pushing & thatâs just one of the reasons why we love our prenatal meetings with our families!
