By Faith He Went Forth
Hebrews 11:8-10
8 By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went.
9 By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as in a strange country, dwelling in tabernacles with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise:
10 For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God.
In situations when God is testing us, He will teach us deeper truths about Himself, His purposes, and His promises. Though we feel stretched in painful seasons, such difficulties are designed to be beneficial. Consider God’s command that Abraham sacrifice his son Isaac. Abraham could have regarded this order as:
Unreasonable. “I love my son. How could You ask this?”
Untimely. “He is the one through whom my descendants are to come.”
Unbearable. “This is too hard for me. I can’t take this pain.”
Abraham rejected such thinking. Instead, he trusted God. The trial revealed this servant’s unshakeable commitment to the Lord’s plan (Gen. 22:12).
Knowing which circumstances will help us grow, our Father asks us to exercise faith and choose His way. Recalling His unending love and commitment to His children will help us do this. Be assured that God makes no mistakes.
Imagine Abraham’s joy when the Lord provided a ram as a sacrifice in Isaac’s place. We, too, will receive a reward of spiritual joy when we remain steadfast. May we respond to times of testing as Abraham did—by trusting and obeying God

Teach Us To Pray
Luke 11:1-4
1 And it came to pass, that, as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.
2 And he said unto them, When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth.
3 Give us day by day our daily bread.
4 And forgive us our sins; for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil.
After hearing the Lord pray, the disciples recognized they had much to learn about communicating with the Father. So they asked Jesus to teach them. With the Lord as our role model, we can try to motivate our loved ones to develop a prayer life that will endure. Since an example can be even more effective than an explanation, it’s beneficial for them to see and hear us as we talk intimately with God.
When we bring our concerns to the Lord, our family and friends will see how He answers prayers. They’ll also recognize that He’s our provider, protector, and guide. Learning how God responds to our requests can encourage people to take their concerns to Him as well (Phil. 4:6-7).
Fellow believers also need to understand that prayer is not just a list of requests. Rather, it’s a conversation that builds a relationship with the Lord. When they hear us praise and exalt Him, they’ll realize praying should be God-focused rather than self-focused. And as they observe us reading the Bible and letting it guide our requests, they’ll learn to pray according to God’s will.
Sometimes prayer can be challenging, but remain committed. Never forget that you can influence others through your example of faithful prayer.

The Trouble To Accepting Gods' Love
1 John 3:1-3
1 Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.
2 Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.
3 And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.
Do you ever struggle to embrace the pure love of God? What might prevent a believer from accepting this wonderful blessing?
Our own relationships. Ironically, the way we love each other can distort how we perceive the heavenly Father’s love. As imperfect people, we exhibit imperfect love.
Guilt. Our remorse over sinful behavior might convince us that we are unworthy of God’s love. However, we have the assurance of Scripture that our Father loves us completely.
Legalism. Many people view the Bible as a rule book. However, God gave us His Word for instruction and inspiration, not as a measuring stick by which He distributes love or punishment.
Misinterpretation of divine discipline. God is a trustworthy and caring Father; His discipline and love are intimately connected (Heb. 12:5-6). He corrects our behavior when necessary for our benefit, not as a form of punishment. Jesus already redeemed us from our sin; God doesn’t continue to hold anything over our head.
Is something in your life preventing you from fully experiencing the joy and exhilaration of God’s unconditional love? If so, lay it down before Him today and receive the amazing grace He so freely offers to His beloved ones.
