After 15 years of teaching elementary art, I will be starting a new chapter in which I return to the high school level where I started. This was the hardest career decision I have ever made!

Over these years at Letort (8), Martic (6), Pequea (7)(and even Eshleman and Conestoga for half a year) I have learned so much from students and staff. I am so so thankful for everyone who I shared space and time with and I just cannot believe how much I have loved this chapter of my career.

I will not say goodbye but only see you later, as I have told all of my Pequea students that I'll be waiting for them at the high school!

Love, Mrs. Steffy

Some highlights of the end of the year: An Arty Party in 2nd grades, 4th grade Comic Book Portraits, 6th grade text bio portraits and class of banner, collaborative PEQUEA dream letters, Miss Dessa send off, Mr. Webster and I rocking our kids art shirts.

3rd grade mythical creatures come to life! Collaboration with high school ceramic students in Ms. Carson's class.

** Not all of the 3rd graders were able to have their sketches made, as it was only one ceramics class, but we plan to do something similar next year when Ms. Carson is here at Pequea and I am at the High school! We will be able to include the rest of this grade!

Recycled vases by Mrs. Stoltzfus' class. We decoupaged old paint bottles with recycled books, maps, ect. from the collage center. Then we made tissue paper flowers and stems using straws that had been donated to the art room.

Art and Library collaborated to create a book in 4th grade! Mrs. Mattern came to me at the beginning of the year and asked if I wanted to collaborate to have a grade level create a book! Of course, I agreed to the awesome idea! Students created poems about themselves and their dreams in Library and also created self-portraits in art illustrating their dreams of the future. Each 4th grade class will have a book that will be housed in the library. I can't wait to see them! Here a few of the original works that are hanging in the hallway.

Grade 2 finished a unit on geometric and organic shape and then created abstract collages inspired by the art of Reggie Laurent. We then put all of them together to make a giant collaborative abstract work.

As Reggie Laurent says, "My art is unique because I am unique!"

We celebrate our uniqueness, but also realize how beautiful it can be when we come together! ❤️

First graders have been learning about the differences between 3D vs. 2D. First, we created snowman sculptures out of clay. We learned all about the process of ceramics and glazing!

We then read Snowmen at Night by Caralyn Buehner and drew 2D snowmen doing our favorite things at night.
