WCS prepares for 15 months of construction — Williston Observer The $20 million renovation project scheduled to start in June at Williston Central School is a hodgepodge of large-scale overhauls and miscellaneous repairs in categories that include ventilation, electrical, plumbing, security, windows and roofs — among other things.
Last night the Williston School Board voted to extend the school year by one day until Friday June 16th. This is to recover some of the classroom time lost to the four snow days this past winter.
The Williston School Board also voted to extend the early release until the end of this school year. The original calendar had three Tuesdays from Memorial Day until the end of the year as full length, but they will now be early release like the current schedule.
If you have any questions about this, please email [email protected]. Thank you!
The CVSD board would like to thank our communities for approving the school articles. We are very pleased to see the budget passed by a 2-1 margin. This has been a challenging year with our first budget process during consolidation. There were many important conversations during the past few months and at Town Meetings around the district. We have heard these comments and will continue to work to maximize benefits of consolidation to deliver exceptional education opportunities in a cost effective manner. Again, our sincere thanks to all fellow board members, administrators, teachers, and community members who have taken part in the process.
Thanks to your support, all budget ballot items passed.

Thank you, Williston Observer for your informative reporting on the upcoming combined school budget. To clarify, the approved bond was projected to increase Williston's tax by approximately $40 per $100,000 assessed value. Instead, the proposed budget will increase the tax rate by about $24.86 per $100,000. It should also be noted that a portion of this year's increase is due to a 4% reduction in Williston's CLA as determined by the State.
Merged school board approves $74M budget — Williston Observer For the first time as a united leadership body, the 12 elected members of the Champlain Valley School District’s new board approved a school budget on Tuesday night, at Williston Central School.
Reminder: FINAL CVSD Budget Input for the '17-'18 Fiscal Year
The CVSD budget is being prepared at meetings around the district and presentations near town meeting day when everyone in the five towns votes. There will be one more budget working session:
Tuesday, 1/17/17 Williston Central School Dining Room, 5:30 PM
The Champlain Valley School District (CVSD) is the organization created by the school governance consolidation in Act 46. This new district is comprised of the towns of the CSSU: Charlotte, Hinesburg, Shelburne, St George, and Williston. Along with organizing and forming the new district, the first big task of the new school board is creating the budget for the '17-'18 year.
These meetings will be held to discuss the baseline budget assumptions, decision packets to add/remove cost to the budget, as well as review financial numbers of each function as they are presented for the total budget.
A Budget Hearing on the final budget to be voted upon will be on 2/23/17 at CVU Room 160 at 6:00 PM.
All of these meetings are open to the public, and the CVSD board welcomes public input on this process.
For any questions, feel free to contact a Williston representative on the CVSD board (Erin Brady, Kevin Mara, Amanda Marvin, or Brendan McMahon) or the chair (David Connery at [email protected]).
