🏫 The WBSD7 School Board spent this afternoon in a workshop focused on long-range facilities planning and preparing for the district's future needs.
The workshop included information and discussion led by strategic planning consultant Dr. Jeff Schatz and school planning consultant Rob Schwartz of RSP & Associates, both of whom have partnered with the district for more than eight years.
Additional information and perspectives were provided by Director of Facilities & Maintenance Kris Brurud, Business Manager Mike Arnold, Superintendent Dr. Jason Germundson, and Nick Lippert of JLG Architects.
Topics included enrollment trends, facility capacity, long-range planning considerations, financial factors, and potential next steps as the district continues to plan for future growth and facility needs. The discussion also included how the district will address ongoing deferred maintenance needs in existing schools.
💰 Cost savings on the Sloulin Elementary School project freed up approximately $4.4 million for reinvestment in existing district facilities. Those funds supported a new HVAC system and roof at Hagan in Summer 2025 and a new HVAC system at Lewis & Clark in Summer 2026.
With those one-time savings now committed, the district is planning for sustainable ways to continue funding future maintenance and facility improvement projects across the district.
No formal action was taken during today's workshop. Ideas and concepts discussed will be reviewed by the Planning Committee, which will develop recommendations for future consideration by the School Board.
Thank you to our board members, staff, and planning partners for their time, expertise, and thoughtful discussion.
