Burch Educational Services We specialize in Full Comprehensive Evaluations for Learning Disabilities, Intellectual Disabilities, Dyslexia, Dysgraphia, and Dyscalculia.

Burch Educational Services isn’t only for reading and writing. We also support students who struggle with math—including children with dyscalculia.

Math difficulties may look like:

🔢 Trouble understanding number values
🔢 Forgetting math facts they previously learned
🔢 Confusing operation signs
🔢 Struggling with time, money or measurements
🔢 Feeling overwhelmed by word problems
🔢 Difficulty remembering the steps in a problem
🔢 Anxiety or frustration during math homework

Sometimes a child isn’t “bad at math”—they simply need it explained in a way that makes sense to their brain.

Through individualized, hands-on instruction, we help students strengthen foundational skills, learn useful strategies and rebuild their confidence one step at a time. 💙

A pencil grip. A hands-on activity. A short brain break. A patient instructor who understands that every child learns differently.

For a child with dysgraphia, writing can require an incredible amount of focus and effort. What may look like a simple worksheet to someone else can feel overwhelming to them.

That’s why individualized support matters. We aren’t lowering expectations—we’re giving children the tools and strategies they need to reach them.

Every letter practiced, every frustration overcome and every moment a child begins to believe, “I can do this,” is a victory worth celebrating.

Before children can read words, they must learn to hear the sounds inside them.

What sound does pumpkin begin with?
Which letter makes that sound?
Where does it belong?

Questions like these help strengthen letter-sound recognition, vocabulary, memory and early reading skills. But to this sweet student, it simply feels like a game—and that’s exactly the point!

Hands-on activities allow children to see, hear, touch and practice what they’re learning. For many students, especially those with dyslexia or other learning differences, that can make difficult concepts easier to understand and remember.

Not every reading breakthrough begins with a book. Sometimes it begins with a tiny pumpkin and the exciting realization: “Pumpkin starts with P!” 🎃✨

WHAT IS DYSGRAPHIA?

Dysgraphia is a learning difference that affects a person’s ability to express their thoughts through writing. A child may know exactly what they want to say—but struggle to get those ideas onto paper.

Signs may include:

✏️ Messy or difficult-to-read handwriting
✏️ Inconsistent letter sizes and spacing
✏️ Trouble with spelling, grammar or punctuation
✏️ Writing very slowly or tiring quickly
✏️ Avoiding written assignments
✏️ Becoming frustrated when asked to write
✏️ Giving short written answers despite explaining ideas well out loud

Dysgraphia is not laziness, carelessness or a lack of intelligence. These children often work incredibly hard just to complete tasks that appear simple to others.

With the right evaluation, support and intervention, children with dysgraphia can gain confidence, develop helpful strategies and discover new ways to share their brilliant ideas.

If writing feels harder for your child than it should, you are not alone—and neither are they.

MYTH VS. FACT

❌ MYTH: “They’ll grow out of it. Let’s just wait and see.”

✅ FACT: Children with dyslexia and other learning differences don’t need more time—they need the right kind of support.

Waiting can allow frustration to grow, confidence to disappear, and a child to begin believing they simply aren’t smart. But with early identification, proper intervention, and teaching designed for the way their brain learns, children can make incredible progress.

If your child is struggling, trust your instincts. Asking questions doesn’t mean you’re overreacting—it means you’re advocating for them. 💙

We did it for Robert. 💙

Because of the generosity shown at our Drive for Dyslexia Golf Tournament, we raised enough money to provide Robert with a full year of learning services.

A full year.

A full year of receiving the specialized support he needs.
A full year of building his confidence.
A full year of reminding him that he is smart, capable, and worthy of every opportunity to succeed.

There truly are no words big enough to express what this means to Robert, his family, and all of us at the Burch Learning & Literacy Foundation.

❌ MYTH: Dyslexia means a child sees letters backwards.
✅ FACT: Dyslexia is a language-based learning difference that can affect reading, spelling, decoding, and fluency.

❌ MYTH: Kids with dyslexia just need to read more.
✅ FACT: More practice alone isn’t always enough. Many students need explicit, structured instruction designed for the way they learn.

❌ MYTH: Dyslexia is a sign of low intelligence.
✅ FACT: Absolutely not. Children with dyslexia can be incredibly bright, creative, curious, and capable.

❌ MYTH: If a child is getting decent grades, they can’t have dyslexia.
✅ FACT: Many students compensate, work twice as hard, or hide their struggles for years.

❌ MYTH: They’ll eventually grow out of it.
✅ FACT: Dyslexia doesn’t simply disappear — but with the right support, students can build strong skills and confidence.

It’s only September… and some families are already seeing the signs.

Homework that should take 20 minutes turns into an hour.

Reading ends in frustration.
Spelling words disappear from memory the next day.
