And to Coach Cameron’s team for winning the Junior High division.
All of our teams played great in pool play and it was a fun day in the gym ❤️🏐
Excited to see you all at practice next week.
What a great tournament we had today!! Here’s a look at our 3rd & 4th graders who competed hard all day. They ended up with a tied record 2 wins / 2 losses but Coach Leighna’s team pulled out a 25-23 win in championship match. We are so proud of how hard these girls played all day, how much they have improved and had fun in the gym as well as the great sportsmanship they showed throughout the day! A huge shout out to our awesome parents as well who cheered and supported not just their daughters but both teams through out the tourney.
Our AirBorne family showed up BIG for our coaches Sam, Grace, and Danica at their volleyball game last Friday! Can’t wait until our AirBorne athletes are playing at the next level! 🏐🤍

The Core Sportsplex coming to Willis
A new sports complex is breaking ground on Sat. Sept.16th in Willis that will provide multiple sports options for the entire family with a focus on developing athletes for school and club teams.
The Core Sportsplex will be located at 12110 Old Montgomery Road in Willis and the grand opening is expected in early 2024.
“There are three things every parent wants for their child; to be healthy, happy, and thrive,” said owners Brett and Maria Rhea who are like most parents, trying to provide and do the best for their kids. They have been residents in Montgomery County since 2005.
During the COVID pandemic, they saw a great need for a place for families and kids to be able to meet, train, compete, and just have a place to gather and have fun. It was during the COVID shutdowns that the vision for The Core Sportsplex took root in their hearts. The Rheas wanted to provide a sports facility for families, especially for children and young people to have a place to play and train in various sports without interruption and so began the plans to build.
“The clubs at The Core will prepare and provide athletes with a high level of training and competition that will not only prepare them for school sports but also for college sports if that is their goal,” Brett Rhea said.
Two Christ-based businesses, Texas Diamonds and AirBorne Volleyball are partnering in The Core to bring the best volleyball training for kids in our community ages 5-18 years old. Diamonds (Club teams) and AirBorne (developmental programs) have been training and mentoring kids in the community for a combined 26 years.
“Besides the already agreed upon sports organizations of Texas Diamonds VBC, AirBorne Volleyball, and the Eggz flag football to inhabit The Core, we also plan to have other fun activities to take place in and outside of our building,” Rhea said. “We are discussing indoor sports such as pickleball, dodgeball, adult volleyball, wrestling, and jujitsu tournaments. For the outdoors, there have been discussions to provide tackle football, soccer, and possibly a whiffle field. We hope to offer community events (based on availability) such as food truck Fridays, Christmas markets, and birthday parties.”
Texas Diamonds owner Debbie Abbott served as a varsity volleyball coach at Covenant Christian School in Conroe for 11 years and Kelly Newman graduated from CCS and played D1 volleyball at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.
AirBorne Volleyball owners are Linda Irvine who served as the varsity volleyball coach and athletic director at Lifestyle Christian School in Conroe for a total of eight years and her daughter, Abby (Irvine) Creamer, who graduated from Willis High School and played D1 volleyball at The University of Houston under Coach David Rehr and later coached D1 volleyball at Liberty University and North Alabama.
The owners of The Core Sportsplex recognize the importance of bringing in local business owners who don’t just work here but this is also their home and community. As our community grows, The Core looks forward to welcoming more programs that will benefit our kids and school programs, like The Eggz Flag Football program and their owners Ashley Eggleston and Joey Stefani, according to Brett Rhea.
The philosophy of The Core is “As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another,” Proverbs 27:17. The goal will be to provide multiple sports options for the entire family, with a focus on developing athletes for school and club teams.
When asked about the impact this will have on our community, Willis varsity volleyball coach Megan Storms said, “The Core Sportsplex will greatly help Willis and the surrounding communities with all sports. We have already seen tremendous growth in the sport of volleyball with the addition of club programs in the area. Adding an actual sports facility will only increase this growth.”
“Developmental volleyball makes a huge impact on the growth and development of the sport,” Storms said. “Getting kids involved early will promote the development of athletes, which will in turn help us be more competitive at the middle school and high school levels. Having The Core Sportsplex will definitely help continue to grow the sport of volleyball in our community!”
WISD’s Athletic Director, Jason Glenn, couldn’t be any happier about The Core coming to Willis.
“I see The Core Sportsplex becoming a groundbreaking facility for our community that will allow our athletes to catch up to so many other districts as far as training and being able to introduce our kids to an assortment of sports at an early age,” Glenn said.
“This complex will bless us with an opportunity to grow our kids at an early age and allow us to compete at a higher level but most importantly our kids will have a place to go to get better and it will keep our babies busy year round with the sports they love.”
While The Core will serve all of Montgomery County and surrounding communities, Willis schools will certainly benefit by having The Core located in the city of Willis.
Our Elite 7th & 8th graders will have former D1 Coach and former D1 vball athlete ( Coach Abby ) leading all practices this Fall. This is a 12 week program designed to help every athlete improve their game- whether your goal is to earn a starting position at school or to make the team next year- this is a place to work hard and get to the next level.
The girls will learn and run a 6-2 offense while running drills to improve all skills ( overhand serving, hitting, passing and setting ) Every practice will have 1 hour of instruction /drills and 1 hour of scrimmage time.

Happy Easter to all our AirBorne athletes and families. HE is Risen!
“They found the stone rolled away from the tomb, but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. While they were wondering about this, suddenly two men in clothes that gleamed like lightning stood beside them. In their fright the women bowed down with their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, “Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here; he has risen! Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee: ‘The Son of Man must be delivered over to the hands of sinners, be crucified and on the third day be raised again.’ ””
So much fun at our first MINIS practice ! These girls are awesome!! ❤️🏐
Reminder: important practice info for this week. Text Coach Irvine if you have any questions @ 936-524-1424 ❤️🏐
