The Amherst School of Guitar was founded in 1982 by its current Director Mir Ali. The guitar program at the school is one of the leading guitar programs in the country with strong affiliations with major universities, world-renowned artists and faculty and various guitar festivals. Students learn in a relaxed, friendly and fun environment and develop many skills enabling them to enjoy music through their instrument. They gain confidence, become more creative and embrace the value of discipline. Our program and faculty caters to the beginner, never having played before, all the way to the advanced with many years of experience. We also offer a special program for students getting ready for college auditions and an advanced program for the professional in the commercial industry. The Program
The school offers programs in various guitar styles including Folk, Classical, Flamenco, Latin and modern guitar. In addition, courses are offered in fretboard harmony, sight-reading, composition, arranging and music theory. All faculty members are music graduates with degrees in music from leading music universities in the United States and abroad.
