The first Uptown Music Collective Summer Music Camp of 2019, Blues: Roots & Beyond w/ Gabe Stillman took place the week of June 10th. The students rooted through the mysteries of blues as UMC Instructor, Alum, and 2019 IBC Gibson Guitar Award winner, Gabe Stillman introduced the unique musicality of this important American art form.
The students traced the history of blues from its beginnings as simple folk music to its transformation into an electric sound that arguable defines American music. Other camp lessons included soloing like the greats, playing musically within a band, and maintaining the decades-old blues tradition. All while taking place in a low-stress environment with an emphasis on listening and practicing.
The camp wrapped up with a special performance for the students families and friends so they could show off what they learned throughout the week! #ConnectWithMusic
