Good afternoon, Williamsport! You may have heard a warning siren in the Newberry section! THERE IS NO EMERGENCY! There seems to be a glitch our fault in that particular siren. Our Streets and Parks department is diligently working to disconnect the power to the siren!

These sirens are antiquated and are not being utilized for warning the public in the event of an emergency! In the event of a real EMERGENCY, you will receive information on your cellular device; much like an Amber alert or tornado warning, as well as broadcasts on local news channels and radio stations!

Again, there is no emergency in Newberry! We apologize for any confusion or hysteria, we will be working on a permanent solution to avoid this type of situation in the future!

πŸŽ’πŸ”₯ BACK TO SCHOOL SAFETY STARTS WITH ALL OF US! πŸšŒπŸ“š

As students across our community head back to school, the Williamsport Bureau of Fire wants to remind families, drivers, and students to make SAFETY part of the daily routine.

🚸 Walk Safely β€” Use sidewalks and crosswalks, and always look both ways before crossing.

🚌 Practice Bus Safety β€” Wait in a safe location, stay seated, and always follow the bus driver’s instructions.

πŸš— Drivers: Slow Down! β€” Watch for children, obey school-zone speed limits, and STOP for school buses when their red lights are flashing.

πŸ”₯ Be Fire Smart β€” Keep backpacks and other items away from exits, never overload electrical outlets, and teach children that matches and lighters are toolsβ€”not toys.

🚨 Check Your Smoke Detectors β€” Make sure your family has working smoke alarms and knows two ways out of every room.

🏠 Practice Your Home Fire Escape Plan β€” A few minutes of preparation today can make a lifesaving difference during an emergency.

πŸ“ž Make sure children know how and when to call 911.

From all of us at the Williamsport Bureau of Fire, we wish our students, teachers, school staff, bus drivers, and families a SAFE, SUCCESSFUL & GREAT SCHOOL YEAR! β€οΈπŸ’›

STAY ALERT. STAY SAFE. LOOK OUT FOR EACH OTHER.
