****2014 Joint Journal Celebration (Formerly known as SOMETHING FUN) Early Odds****

1. ELPR: Initial Odds 5:1
The reigning champions go for two in a row this year. Led by Carter, Leo, and TommyD, ELPR looks to hoist the trophy again. This year’s key additions, Nick G. and Nick R. look to replace Pat Slebonick’s massive shoes. This, no doubt, is a strong squad. There are a few questions that need to be answered before handing them the victory. Can Taylor repeat his All-Star performance and blow up the Crust again? Can D’addio drink a beer? Will ringers be brought in again? Questions abound.

2. Law Review: Initial Odds 8:1
This squad should win every year. Should win. What they have in numbers they lack in tenacity. These cite checking fiends aren’t often found at the bars late on Thursdays, to put it mildly. Rumor is that King won’t even make it because the race is not being held in Richmond. . .However Law Review had a fantastic draft class this past year. The additions of Kang, Vogel, and Alderfer, to name a few, mark some strong and strategic (and possibly not blind?) drafting by MC.

3. BORJ: Initial Odds: 14:1
America’s favorites. These patriotic page turners always show up strong, donning their red, white, and blue better than Mel Gibson in The Patriot. The loss of Mr. Tankle may take some of the fire out of their team, however. Brad “The Bear” Tobias will have to step in and make a serious dent on the keg for BORJ to have success. Look for a lot of red, white, and blue huddled around the keg on Friday, cheering both BORJ and America on to victory.

4. JOWL: Initial Odds 27:1
Well, there’s not much to say here. Led by LPal, hopefully JOWL will 1) not show up late this year, 2) have something better than Bud heavy to drink. The saving grace for JOWL is that they can’t finish last. . .

5. BLR: Initial Odds 50:1
With perhaps the most raw talent of any of the Journals, BLR lacks the key element needed to come out on top Friday: the will to win. Last year just 12 members showed up to the Race. One of them was allergic to beer. You do the math. This team just doesn’t have the desire to be the best, and it shows. If fifteen people show up from BLR it will be a miracle. You just can’t win that way.

First Annual Sodsball

Dear Friends of the larrimoRe:
Below is a letter, written from Beer M. Sphere himself, which was retrieved from the annals of the larrimoRe. The addressee's name has been censored for privacy considerations. Hopefully this will illuminate some of the storied history of the house.

"Dear X,

My sincere apologies for not responding to your email sooner. I have been very busy cooling beers and traveling to New Orleans with my old pals from Spain.

The larrimoRe, is a house that has been passed down by students in the law school for about thirty years. Historically, three law students and one physics PHD candidate live in the house. The name comes from a beloved former resident, Aaron Larrimore. Before being called the larrimoRe, the house was called the PSF house because it hosted many PSF fund raisers, and still does; the house is listed on the Williamsburg registry of historic places as the Andrew J. Barnes house. It knows no rules--not even grammar or capitalization.

At its core, the larrimoRe is a magical place where law students gather to drink, drink more, and be merry. It is a welcoming place; the people who live there have the benefits of a large house, a large yard, absurdly low rent, and being within walking distance of the law school and the bars; in return, they are expected to host the first party of the year every year and welcome everyone to their home. They are encouraged to host gatherings, fundraisers, and events upon any reasonable request from anyone in the law school community. This welcoming and all-inclusive aspect is the essence of larrimoRe. Everyone and anyone is always welcome, no clique, class year difference, or personal beef should ever lead someone to not feel welcome.

William & Mary has traditionally been a unique law school because of its friendly, laid back, and non-competitive student body. The larrimoRe attempts to foster this atmosphere and promote these characteristics of the community by bringing people together for non-academic gatherings.

I am serious about these goals and descriptions, that is how the house was last passed down, and I hope the next generation of residents will continue the legacy. If you have not experienced the welcoming vibe described above, I sincerely apologize and hope you will always feel welcome in the future. Along those lines, there will be a gathering before Barrister's Ball (which is conveniently within walking distance), you and everyone else is welcome to come. There will be a full keg (minus whatever gets drank this week).

Please let me know if you have any further questions or concerns, I promise my response will be more prompt than this one was.

Sincerely,
Beer"
