On September 19, 2026, Williamsburg Chapter SAR President Ron Adolphi presented the Virginia Society SAR certificate to Dr. Bill Greaf, Past President Virginia Society that recognized his identification of an ancestor patriot who'd never before been submitted to SAR or DAR.

At the September 19, 2026 monthly meeting of the Williamsburg Chapter of The Sons of the American Revolution, the Pledge of Allegiance and 13 Fold Demonstration were given by Scout Troop 103. Scouts Honor Guard members were Kieran Colter and Graves Buckley. 13 Fold Demonstration members were Anthony Malucci and Dominic Berquist.

Stephen Wilson was the keynote speaker at the Williamsburg Chapter SAR luncheon on Saturday, September 19, 2026. Mr. Wilson is the Executive Director at the St. John’s Church Foundation in Richmond, Virginia. Mr. Wilson gave a History of St. John’s Church and its role in the Revolutionary War as well as a reenactment of Patrick Henry’s Speech.

“Damn Virginia—Did I ever seek it? Why is it forced upon me?” - John Murray, Fourth Earl of Dunmore

in 1771, the Earl of Dunmore arrived in Williamsburg and was sworn in as Virginia’s Governor and took up residence in the Governor’s Palace.

Dunmore resisted the move, complaining that Virginia had a poor climate and “little or no society.” After months of grumbling and delaying, he grudgingly trekked south. As Virginia’s governor, he would be embroiled in constant controversy and conflict. A simmering revolution would come to a full boil under his watch.

Today in Hampton History
1957 - Rosa Parks arrives in Hampton to begin working at the Holly Tree Inn, the faculty dining area at Hampton Institute (now Hampton University).

Parks worked at Hampton for a year in the wake of the Montgomery Bus Boycott, which began after she refused to give up her seat to a white rider on a Montgomery, Alabama bus in December 1955. Rosa Parks settled in Detroit after her time in Hampton.

The Montgomery Bus Boycott was a turning point in the Civil Rights Movement. The boycott lasted over a year and ended with a Supreme Court decision declaring segregated buses unconstitutional.
