It was a week of living history! I had the opportunity to do 2 Women’s Suffrage programs and also attend the York County Historical Committee lecture with the incredible Mark Schneider who portrays the Marquis de Lafayette.

I got to spend some time in the 1930s this Christmas with the Williamsburg Old Time Radio Hour and perform at the historic Kimball Theater in Williamsburg. What a treat to share the stories, history and spirit of Colonial Williamsburg with great audiences!

Everything has been researched from documents from the period so it’s a wonderful piece of Williamsburg nostalgia from the 1930s restoration period.

It’s Wonder Woman Day! She made her debut on this date in 1941, created by William Marston. What’s even cooler is that Marston, a psychologist with an interesting career and personal life, was heavily influenced by the Women’s Suffrage movement of the early 20th century. He used symbols of the suffrage movement in his creation of Diana and the Amazons and was inspired by the image of Inez Millholland as his goddess, who led the 1913 women’s parade.

It was a great weekend for history! The Virginia War Museum celebrated its centennial with World War I living history on the lawn and free admission. I interpreted women on the homefront, discussing victory gardens, conservation, care packages, sheet music, women’s suffrage fight, the pandemic and the story of the poppy. I even was crafty and made paper poppies with the kids!
