📚 Universal screening is happening now!
Iowa’s fall universal screening window is August 31–October 2. While many families may not hear much about their child’s screening results until conferences, we know there are also parents who are anxiously waiting to see those scores — especially if reading or academic concerns have already been on their radar.
And those results can bring a lot of questions:
🤔 What does “below benchmark” actually mean?
🤔 Does my child need extra support?
🤔 Should we consider tutoring?
🤔 When is it time to be concerned?
First — if your child is newly below benchmark, don’t panic! One screening score is one piece of information, and students can fall below benchmark for a variety of reasons.
But if your child has been identified as persistently at risk, or below benchmark 2 or more times in a row, that’s when we want to dig a little deeper. What is the data telling us? What skills are causing difficulty? What support is already happening? And what additional instruction might help?
At Tutorburg, we’re happy to help families talk through those questions and determine whether tutoring might be a helpful next step for your child.
You don’t have to wait until conferences to start asking questions.
