Good evening, this is Mrs. Rice, principal at Wonderful Willards. Can you believe we are already in the month of October? Marking Term 1 closes on Oct. 30, so please be sure to set up a conference with your child's teacher if you have any concerns. During classroom visits, the students are actively engaged and learning!

Below are a few important upcoming dates:

Sept. 21st - Oct. 23rd- Charleston Wrap fundraiser - thanks for your participation - we have already earned $3,400 - this goes directly to our Artists In Residence

Oct. 12th Vision screening - this is conducted in PK, kindergarten and first grade

Oct. 14th - Picture Day

Oct. 14th and 15th - Kindergarten MAP Math

Oct. 16th - MSEA convention - school closed for students

Oct. 19th - 21st - School Store

Oct. 24th - PTA Trunk or Treat at Pittsville Fire Company

Oct. 26th - Spirit Day - wear your school gear or colors

Oct. 30th - End of Term 1

One additional announcement: Throughout the school year we will practice a variety of drills (Hold, Secure, Lockdown, Evacuate, Shelter). We have successfully practiced a Lockdown and Hold. This week, we will conduct an Evacuation and Secure Drill. Again, we are committed to taking the time to practice so that the students are prepared. I hope everyone had a great weekend, and we will see you bright and early tomorrow morning.

This school week is ending in a memorable way for 2026-2027 Wicomico Teacher of the Year Dr. Chelsea Taylor, who will travel from James M. Bennett High to the Maryland Teacher of the Year Gala as one of seven finalists whose name could be called out at the end of the night as the winner.

Wicomico County Public Schools and the Wicomico County Board of Education are proud of this outstanding representative of Wicomico teachers. Here’s to an unforgettable night at the Maryland Teacher of the Year Gala for Dr. Taylor!

A Superintendent's Open Door Session will take place from 4-6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7. Time with Superintendent of Schools Dr. Micah Stauffer is on a first-come, first-served basis, at the school system's main office at 2424 Northgate Drive, Salisbury.

The next monthly meeting of the Wicomico County Board of Education is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, October 13, 2026, in the Board of Education Auditorium at 101 Long Ave., Salisbury.

For this Board meeting, the Board will convene at 1:00 p.m. and immediately vote to go into closed session. The open portion of the meeting will begin at about 1:30 p.m. The agenda for this meeting is available at https://wicomico-schools.community.highbond.com/Portal/

To register for public comments, please visit the pre-registration page (https://board_public_comments.wicomicoschools.org/), which is open from October 6 - 12. Anyone unable to pre-register online may visit the school system office at 2424 Northgate Drive during business hours to fill out a paper copy of the pre-registration form.

Good evening, this is Mrs. Rice, principal at Wonderful Willards. We hope you had an opportunity to review your child's mid-term. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to your child's teacher to schedule a conference. We had over 200 students enjoy lunch in the courtyard with a freeze pop for dessert for having perfect attendance for the month of September! Way to go!
