Wilkes-Barre Academy is a non-sectarian, non-profit, and fully accredited elementary and middle school, founded in 1987. It is affiliated with Small Wonders Day Care School, which was established in 1978 to support working and single parents in the greater Wyoming Valley by offering an enriched daycare program for infants through pre-kindergarten. Wilkes-Barre Academy was created to meet the growi
ng demand from parents seeking a well-rounded education and quality care for their children. After evaluating local options, the founders of Small Wonders recognized a gap in the community: no single program offered both comprehensive education and extended care services tailored to the needs of working families. To meet this need, Wilkes-Barre Academy was designed to provide a nurturing classroom environment that encourages daily interaction among teachers, students, and parents. This innovative model—combining elementary and middle school education with integrated before- and after-school care—was the first of its kind in the community. All of our teachers are fully certified in accordance with state requirements, ensuring that every student receives instruction from qualified professionals. In addition, our dedicated support staff participate in ongoing professional development and training programs. Not only do they meet all state-mandated qualifications—they consistently exceed them. This commitment reflects our high standards and our belief that every child deserves a safe, supportive, and expertly guided learning environment.
